Metal building for quilt studio
 

Does anyone have a metal building for their sewing? What kind on material do you have on your walls?

OK - so I have a "studio" in my house and not in a metal building so I can not answer your question directly. However I would say that it would depend on where you are located. I have seen metal buildings actually finished into a house with regular sheetrock walls, back when I lived in Virginia - came out really cute and very affordable for the family. I am guessing it really depends on where you live. If it is up here in the northern USA - I expect you would want real insulation and sheetrock. Somewhere in the south - you could get away with prefinished interior "paneling", I would think. Does it already have electric? If not - when they ask you how many plugs - go for the maximum number of plugs (use the four outlet type - I regret not doing that) and several circuits. It is amazing how much energy a flat iron and lights consume. Good luck!

I think the problem with metal buildings - they sweat - if you have a travel trailer - you will know what I mean - the interior will collect moisture and you will find water on the windows and walls - make sure you have a dessicant or de-humidifier to keep the moisture down.

and a good vapor barrier on the walls. Not a place where I'd keep anything that could draw dampness, although it could be a good work space. It might work fine in Arizona though, your avatar doesn't say where you are.

My dream studio: I would imagine if built properly it would be great. It would need the ventilation, filtration, heating/cooling, hopefully a nice shower bath combo and kitchenette, good lighting, and plenty of electrical outlets. I'd even have electrical outlets from the ceiling. No problem with a steel building, at least no termite concerns.

Of course a big studio probably won't happen but I can dream. Maybe .....

Sorry don't have the answer. But my sister had a new 40x80 metal building that she used for dog agility. It was freezing cold in the winter and sweaty hot in the summer although you could open the large garage doors for ventilation. It wasn't insulated and the walls were unfinished. Also, there was a mouse problem, so it would definitely need to be "tight" on the bottom if you use it for your stuff.

Thanks for the replies. My DH has electric, heating/AC, mouse problems, etc all covered. Just trying to decide what I want the walls made out of.

If it's going to be heat and cooled, drywall.
