My corners are getting stuck in the machine

When I am sewing squared on the diagonal, my points get stuck in my machine. Anyone have any tips or tricks to avoid this?

Use a leader , a small folded piece of fabric before your square.

Some people call them leaders or spiders but they are a small piece of fabric that you put under the presser foot before you start piecing. The actual quilt piece is run through right after the leader to prevent the fabric from going down into the feed dogs. A single hole plate on your machine will help also but you have to be careful to switch back to the zig zag hole plate before zig zagging or using decorative stitches.

My machine does the same things with corners, I place a piece of paper underneath where the seam is, it does not need to be as long as the seam, if it starts it, that is all I need, then I rip it off, the only way I can do it when I am sewing pinwheels, so much less frustrating.

Try a single needle hole plate.

The best solution is a single hole needle plate for straight stitching and a scrap piece of material that you start with when doing "fancy" stitches.

I use s single hole plate as well, but when using my regular plate, I have small squares go old tissue paper that I use to start at my corner.

I would advise against using a single hole plate because one day you WILL forget to change it out when you do a zig zag stitch. Maybe you will only break a needle but why risk injuring your DSM. Just take a small piece of left over fabrics that we all have and use it to begin your stitching and then at the end of your stitching. You will also certainly save on thread.

When was the last time you changed your needle? And are you using a universal point needle?
