I was very disturbed by Leah Day's Slash Star
Yikkies this class is not for me. I can do a wonky star but not this. Wonder what a whole quilt top would do to me ....lol. :).
How do you feel about mis-matched intersections etc.. Judy in Phx, AZ |
I took a peek and decided it was not for me. I like stars with points, and I like some order to my designs. Good thing we are not all alike.

One of my quilt magazine had a similar pattern a while back. It however made a star with points and the seams matched. You did have a bit of waste as you needed to trim the edges. It began with stacking 2 different squares on top of each other and then you cut the same star. I did a set of placemats.

I looked at her video and she says if you don't like mismatched seams, inaccurate seam allowances, or like "improvisational piecing" you won't like to do this block.
It's very modern, for sure! I am not comfortable with it, but then I don't have the zen of modern quilting yet. Can't wrap my head around it. I'm glad others do, because the results can be very interesting and exciting. |

This would be fun to make. If all the stars don't match in the same way then it does match so what's the problem?

Have you not made a buggy barn quilt? They use somewhat the same idea, and it is very fun to do! Go outside the box and a whole new world of quilting of wonderful quilts will be yours. I love the buggy barn quilts I've made and every block is unique!

That's why I like to make whole cloth quilts or appliqué quilts. ALL of my pieced quilts end up looking like that lol. Maybe I am just avant garde and didn't know it.
