Fusible web
 

I seem to gum up my needle whenever doing any applique. What fusible web would eliminate that? Recently used up my old Steam a Seam2 and now can't get it any longer.

Steam a Seam 2 is available again. I just saw it advertised on the bag of a quilting magazine I bought a couple weeks ago. I have always had some gum on the needle no matter what I have used. Some are worse than others.

I just checked the web site, it's in production but not actually available yet, it can be preordered at several places and should be going out soon. I have missed it terribly too.

I have used Heat 'N Bond Lite without gumming up my needle. Be sure it is the lite version, there is a heavy duty that I accidently used and it created gumming on my needle.

JoAnn's has some. I don't remember the brand, but just tell them what you're looking for, and they'll get it for you. Whatever I bought there worked great for me.

To deal with the gummed up needles ......
........ keep some single wrapped alcohol swabs as part of your necessary sewing supplies!

When gummed up, I just open up one, and wipe the needle good, and continue on!

I had the same problem until I started using Sewer's Aid - a liquid silicone that I bought to held eliminate thread breakage when doing machine embroidery. It seems to work really well for that purpose, but I also rub my machine needle with my fingers with a tiny bit of the silicone on them. After using this product, if I do get any "gum" on the needle it just slides right off so easily. I love this stuff!!
