Christmas tree skirts

2 Attachment(s)
With all my holiday sewing and shopping done a few weeks before Christmas, I found myself bored and in the mood to make something quilty.

I ended up finding enough Christmas fabric scraps to make tree skirts for 2 of my daughters. Each one ended up being about 48" square. DH thought that using a square instead of round shape was odd, but worked out well and looked great under the girl's trees.

They are lovely Tree Skirts. I have often thought a square one would be fun to make. Thanks for setting a great example.

Wow! The squares are great! You're two steps ahead of Christmas 2015!!

Not 2 steps ahead....gave these to my daughters before this past Christmas. But I am seriously thinking about making a bunch more during the year for friends and family etc. They went fast...maybe 3 or 4 hours each total working time. I used scraps and chose block patterns to fit the scraps I had. Added enough borders to make it a decent size. Pretty much just made a big square, layered and quilted it, cut a circle and a slit down one side. Added ties on the slit sides (velcro tabs would have worked, but I didn't have any) and then put binding on.

Awesome tree skirts. I am seriously thinking about making some this year. I do need to get busy with stockings though.

Last Christmas (2013) I made a square one for my DD since her small tree sits on a square table. I made it reversible - one side snowflakes and the other side snowmen. She and DGS love it. They've now used both sides of it. Wonder which one they'll pick next time???
