New here

Hi,
I'm Michaela. I'm not 13,it's just my favorite number. I am new to both this forum and to quilting but I'm determined to make a quilt for the bed that I will be sharing with my fiance. It needs to be at least king sized and I have all the measurements for it I just don't know where to start. I do have a few blocks and styles that I already know I want to put on the quilt but I don't know how to get it started and every book that I look at is for machines...I'm just going to do it by hand. Any advice and help is welcomed.

Welcome from Texas! You are a brave woman to start out hand stitching a king-size quilt! There are a few designers who do hand stitching tutes. Jennie Beyer seems to do most of hers by hand. Her designs might be a little complicated, but I'm certain that she does have some instructions on her site. Good luck!

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Start with a simple pattern like a 9 Patch and hand sew one block together. If that goes well, use the 9 Patch blocks between the special blocks you want to sew. A 9 Patch block uses 5 squares in one colour and 4 squares of a different colour sewn together in a checkerboard design.

That's a great idea! Thank you! I think I'll do that. It makes the work less daunting because 9 Patch blocks are pretty simple from what I've seen. Does anyone recommend a certain type of batting to use?
