Another AHA Moment

I was laying in bed just running some different quilt ideas through my mind and this just popped up. I think we've all seen the pins with numbers or letters on the head for keeping track of different pieces. They seem like a good idea but are quite pricey. My thought was to take a Sharpie and just write the numbers/letters on the head of the flat head flower pins. You have the same thing and a lot less $.

Bingo!!!!! I do my best planning lying in bed running things through my mind!

Yes, I've read about this several times. Good idea!

I take the Post-it strips, fold the sticky end to the back of the strip and run a pin through that end so it looks like a flag. I am not limited to the size of the flower head and can put extra info on the strip.

Love this idea.

I have sets of pins with numbers, letters, and arrows. Even have a set with Up, Down, Left, Right, Bottom, Top printed on the flat heads. I have never had a use for them. When do you use them and why?

When I'm ready to sew a bunch of blocks together and need to keep track of the order, I print out a sheet that has "1A 1B 1C... 2A 2B 2C...", as much as I need for the job. I cut the labels apart with an old rotary blade and pin them in the upper left corner of the blocks. I throw away the labels when I'm done because it's too much trouble keeping them in order, but I keep the file with the labels for the next time.

Yes, I have done this too. Keep the pins in a special little pin cushion just for them.
Warning, do not iron over them!! LOL Ask me how I know.

To keep my rows in order when putting them together, I use safety pins with a large bead in the beginning block of each row. I have each bead marked with permanent marker, one to ten, using however many I need for the number of rows I have. I like this as they don't come out so I don't get the rows, blocks mixed up.

I've been marking my pins with a sharpie for years! haha
