My "new" machine
2 Attachment(s)
Thought I would share this. As far as we can figure it and the information we got when we purchased this little baby, this is a 1891 VS2 Singer with Victorian Decals. The cabinet veneer is lifting and splitting on the right side some and the bottom of the right drawer front piece is missing and so are the drawer pulls.
This has the cutest little bobbins, I have never seen them before until yesterday when I bought this at an auction. The price was right so I couldn't pass it up. Question....... Do I want to repair the cabinet or just keep it oiled so it doesn't get worse? Any suggestions or ideas? I plan to have the machine cleaned and gone over really good. It works but the belt broke and will have it replaced. I don't plan on sewing with it. It will be a show item if we can get it to look as good as I think they can. My husband about "killed" me when I bought this as this is my 8th machine I own, however this is by far the oldest of the group.....LOL. It is really just a start to my collection. |
Nice addition. Congrats!

very nice machine

wow...its in great condition. I would have bought it too. Does it work? or is it too early to tell?

Yes it works, however, the belt was very thin and it ended up breaking after a few minutes of running. I have a repairman that will tune it up and clean it really good for me and put on a new belt. I have to decide what I want to do with the cabinet. I can have it fixed with a new piece of veneer for the whole top...but that devalues it but it make is look so much more pretty...lol. I will have to figure that part out later after it is tuned up.

I think there was something on this board recently about these. There were two kinds and one was called coffin or casket, as that cover looks like a coffin.

It is beautiful, congratulations.

Hi, I have an 1881 VS2. I decided just to keep the wood nice with Old English polish and keep it in it's original antique condition. I do want to take the base off and repaint it, but it will have to be next summer....It is very fun to sew quilt blocks with it and if you ever lose power and have it by a bright window you can still have a productive day!
Here is a fun link, I love this lady. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6floSCAD_lg Here are some pics of Shasta my treadle, I keep her bonnet covered because I have her placed in front of a very hot sunny west facing window: |
