.... are not for little kids: "Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht sind für kleine Kinder nicht!" this is an old saying over here! And they are right when you have a look at this quilt:

My grandson (4y) was so disturbed when he realized what he has done! He wept and he was really sorry when he saw that we are not really pleased when we saw the holes in the quilt!
But then I comforted him and told him that I will try to mend it as good as possible!
I made this quilt 10 years ago for my daughter and she loves this quilt! It will be continued! And by the way: he used a little nail scissor!

Oh my! I am sure he will be happy again once the quilt is repaired by Gramma.

It is still a beautiful quilt.

Oh my! And what was he playing with, scissors?? I think all youngsters seem to go through that phase. It is very hard to stay mad at them when they realize what they have done is wrong and are so sorry. In my youth it was the hair on all my dolls!

I think you can fix it. Maybe some appliqued hearts.

Easier to mend a quilt than it is a broken heart. This event and its resolution will be a family story that lives for generations.

I love that quilt! I am sure he feels bad - but I bet you can mend it :) then it will have a little more history to tell

Oh, no!

I agree I would patch it with red hearts or something "different". It reminds me of kintsugi. Broken can still be made beautiful.

My niece was baby-sitting her 4 yr old niece when her 4 year old daughter cut both their hair. I taught Kindergarten and some kids would be working on a cutting project and just make confetti they were so happy to be cutting. I bet he'll be more careful in the future.

My daughter who was 6, had to bring buttons to school to use as counting pieces. She came home and cut all the buttons off her dad's shirts that were in the mending basket! She's 45 years old now.

Oh dear, someday it will be a funny story. Part of growing up. Lovely quilt!
