What would happen if...

Would it be possible to make a quilt sandwich with only a quilt cotton pieced top and minky backing with no middle layer?

Yes it is possible

I made one without batting and used a flannel backing (quilt was made to be used as a table topper). ..... and no quilt police showed up at my door!!!

A lot of members on here do not use batting. Some make summer quilts or live in warmer areas.

it is definitely possible... it makes a great baby quilt

Thank you for the information. I am going to do it!

Absolutely. I have a few quilts my grandmothers made for me; each of them made at least one quilt for me that had no batting. One has heavy canvas backing and was made as a 'bedspread' - the other has soft flannel backing and was made as a 'drag around' throw. I still have both, both have held up very well over the decades!

That's a great idea! I have 3 quilt tops (big pieces of any fabric she had, very scrappy, some might be flour sacks) that either my MamMaw made or her daughter. Most likely my MamMaw's 'cause I remember seeing a quilt frame strung up to ceiling but can not ever remember seeing her quilt...

My Aunt made both our kids a baby blanket with pieced top, no batting and a flannel back. I loved these quilts because they draped nicely over the baby.

Please let us know how it works out...I have the same question. I completed a chevron top for our new baby niece but have not put a backing on it and was going to purchase some cuddle-something from Shannon Fabrics.
