Quilting Class Etiquette Question....
Is it considered the thing to do to buy your supplies from the LQS that you are taking the class from?
I already have the batting and King Tut thread and I would much prefer to purchase my fabric in the States, where it is half the price, but if that is not appropriate, I'd like to know. Or could I purchase maybe the main fabric at the LQS and bring the rest? Watson |
I never have - the local store that has classes that I like here, does not really carry fabric lines that I like.
They offer a discount on class day and encourage shopping, but nobody has ever given me stink-eye for bringing my own things and not buying anything. I'm paying the class fee, after all. Maybe it's different if it's a free class? |
Since you're paying for the class (I assume, correct me if I'm wrong) I would bring your stuff.
|
I'd probably bring my own stuff and maybe make a small purchase at the shop. A couple of fat quarters or something similar. It would depend on what I'd already paid for the class and what the shop had to offer.
|
I do purchase something at the shop. But I bring my own fabrics. Most of the classes I have taken require either a special ruler or some pattern. I think that and the cost of the class is enough.
|
If I'm paying to take the class (as opposed to a free class), I don't feel obligated to buy my supplies from them. I did see on a LQS's website that they requested that you buy your fabrics from them which I considered a bit pushy because their classes are fairly pricey. When you pay to take a class, I feel you should be able to use whatever fabrics you want.

I bring my own fabrics and supplies. I'm already paying approx $50 for the class and another $25 for the pattern on a limited budget.
|
It would not bother me at all to bring my own fabric. If I am paying them for the class, they do not need to take any more of my $$.

i bring my own things/supplies. sometimes i find something i like at the shop
|
I have been taking classes to support my shop, because I 'don't buy fabric there :)
I quit buying fabric in 2001... and I love my shop and the owners. |
