Question for Juki TL2010Q Users
 

Hey there! Can I please get some opinions on the best thread type (wt also) and needle size preferred for FMQing on the Juki TL2010Q? Thanks!

I love my Juki!!
I use Aurifil 40 or 50 thread but there may be others that work just as well. Mine came with a bunch of Organ needles. I believe they are size 70 and they work well.

The only thing I don't like is my needle threader. It just won't work for me. I have a similar one on my Bernina and it works every time. Can't seem to get my Juki threader to work.

The needle size depends on the thread weight and ply. I use Organ needles. Superior Thread needles are made by Organ. I use a variety of threads, Aurifil, Wonderfil, Superior, and Glide.

I have this Juki and it is not picky about thread. I use Schmitz needles. The machine came with Organ needles, but they are so short, I don’t see how they could work. I’ve never gotten my needle threaded to work, either.

Mine works "sometimes" I have to have a lot of patiences and try several times before I can get it to work. Seems that it mostly is related to how much tension I have on the thread I have and letting it go at just the right time.

I use Schmetz Topstitch 14/90 needles most of the time for FMQ. This week I learned about Schmetz High Speed HLx5 needles, supposedly designed for high speed machines like the TL2010Q, and equivalent models made by Brother and Janome. I might give them a try.

I've tried a lot of different threads on my TL2010Q. They all worked well, with some needing more tension adjustments than others. These days, I seem to favor Glide. It's so trouble-free!

I use any old thread. My machine isn't picky. I do sometimes have skipped stitches when fmq'ing but found if I use a 'jeans' needle that it helps. Oh, and I have only been able to get my needle threader to work once. I haven't tried in a long time to use it again.

The Juki rep told me to use Organ needles when I asked about the threader not working properly. All new machines are set at factory using Organ needles so the threader is set for those exact needle dimensions.

As others, this machine is not picky about thread. It has used everything I have ever had. I use Schmetz needles easy and readily available. The needle threader doesn't work. It may have worked once or twice but just not worth the hassle. After trying it a few times, I just thread it by hand.

I use whatever thread I want with no problems. The threader takes some practice, but once you get it, you get it. JuliaSB is right - it has a lot to do with the amount of tension you put on the thread. I now get it 3 times out of 4:)
