Anyone have the Bernina 770 QE E?
 

Hubby wants to buy me a new machine and I was looking into this one. Do you have one or have you heard anything good or bad about them?

umm...this is hard one. I bought a 570 which has a smaller neck as I have a long arm. I had a lot of problems with it messing up in the bobbin area and jamming. I had it into the shop....they thought it was fixed...it wasn't...took it in again...same problem....finally I returned it for a 590 which is the so much better and I am really enjoying it.(a bit more money of course) I have heard some people really like their 770 and 790. However, I have concluded that newer Bernina's maybe are not the easiest machines to operate. There are so many features on them and so many adjustments so the machine behaves just how you want it to. It is Not a machine you can just sit down and start to sew on. When it is working well, and you and machine are one....it is absolutely a wonderful machine. When I and my machine were not "one", it was a nightmare! I would say, if you have a good dealer nearby and there are classes being offered, make sure you take them. There are also a lot of you tube videos that have helped me out and the Bernina also has online video's and resources. I do know that when the machines in this series first came out, there were some "bugs" in the computer programs just like in everything else that is computerized. There was a least one update to the firmware between my experience with the 570 and 590...one them was something about the tension not operating right when you first started stitching (causing a jam). Anyway, my experience with the 590 so far has been wonderful...there were a few hiccups', but that was new operator error. Oh, and my dealer was not an experienced Bernina dealer have just started to carry them after the old one left the area. She was much more familiar with Janome's and still is. Oh, and my understanding is that my 590, has the same just about everything the 790 has except for the shorter neck...which makes it easier to carry although it is still heavy...I still got me a lighter basic Bernina to take to classes where I don't need all the bells and whistles. Oh, and the 590 can't to the largest embroideries that the 790 can cuz of the shorter neck.

I own one... They are way too much money for features you may never use! Very expensive attachments, and very delicate settings...i.e. which thread you have in, etc. I already have too much money invested, but would never buy it again.

I see on their website, that they recommend these machines for the "expert" sewers who want lots and lots of features. I probably over bought too when I got the 590...I used to have a Bernina Artista 630 which I loved, never got the embroidery arm for, just used for piecing and quilting but had used it a lot and it was starting to sound very loose and noisy. Wish they still made that one.

I hear ya, SewingPup. I had a Bernina 1630 back in the day and now have an Artista 180 from the 90's. I'm just praying it keeps working because I really like it. I would never buy the embroidery unit again. Mine hasn't been out of the closet in probably 15 years and there are features that I never use on this machine. I just really like sewing on it. I've actually been on the lookout for another one to buy as a back up.

I have one and am very happy with it. I've been a Bernina gal since I bought my first computerized machine, the 150QE. My second was the 560 and during the COVID shut-down I bought the 770. That was the perfect time to buy as there was a special price on it. I got the Tula Pink version with the embroidery module for a bit less than the non-Tula Pink without the embroidery module. I figured this would be my last ever machine, so it was worth the money for me. I haven't even scratched the surface on all it can do and haven't even opened the embroidery module! I just tell people this machine and my HQ Avante keep me off the streets at night!

I would not part with my 770 QE. I also purchased mine on sale so the embroidery module came free…I have played around with it a few times but i am going to play around with embroidery more this winter.

My 770 sits in a cabinet so I have plenty of space to construct large quilts while also having the ability to FMQ projects. While I am not a garment sewer, I do use some of the extra stitch options and a couple of specialized feet t for making drapes, pillows and appliqué projects. For me, the 770 is a workhorse and my “go to” machine. I do have two Janome machines that are also great …

I love mine!!!
It's now 2.5 years that I've had it and zero problems. It's a dream machine. I don't want to sew on anything else now.
Oops- don't have the embroidery module because I wouldn't use it but could always add it if I change my mind.

Good luck with whatever you decide. Nothing beats a new toy!

Hubby and I will be going down to the quilt store today to bite the bullet. I am so excited I can't sit still!
