Endless strings!
 

I'm working on a string quilt, and as I sew I wonder if anyone ever actually uses up all their strings! Or, in the case of crumb quilts, all their crumbs. We know and have all acknowledged that these things multiply in the night when we're not looking. But I'm wondering if any of you have ever managed to actually conquer the pile?

Not me! I've made a lot of scrappies (one a string quilt) and still have oodles of scraps that I am trying (emphasis on the TRYING) to organize and use up.

I’ve made dozens of string and scraps quilts and have yet to see the bottom of the bin. LOL. Good luck trying to wrangle them into submission!

I've made big string quilts, I've made small string quilts, I've made odds and ends (bags, potholders, placemats, etc) The strings are never ending.

I've done a number of string quilts. I've put together strings to make fabric that I ending up giving away. I never came to an end, and since I like to trim off strings to make my straight of grain and how badly mu typical piece of fabric is cut, I'm not likely to use them all up. Not buying fabric does help, and I typically get better straight cuts online than I do in stores. Be aware it is not always the clerk's fault, but can be not folded correctly or otherwise twisted during manufacture.

Make strings while they are fun and interesting and then figure you've done enough for "right now".

And crumbs? I am a producer (not a user) of crumbs!!

I make a string quilt or crumb quilt every so often. I save my scrap fabric in a big rolling metal canister. When it gets full I give the scraps away and start over.

I think my scraps have the same DNA as rabbits. They just keep growing. Scrap quilts are fun but I still have more. Now I am thinking of sorting by color and making string quilts with one or two colors at a time. This may help me consume all of each as I use them. 😂 a girl can dream

I like the stringing by color idea. I also have thought about that. Even making different colored blocks and putting them together in a quilt could be fun and it would be pretty brainless once you have your sorted piles. Me like!

never have enough! id love to make a duckworth-style quilt in oranges or pinks (kind of an improv log cabin) ill never have enough. i sort strings by color group and have never had more than a shoebox of each. maybe its the size, they have to be less than 1.5 to go in my string box
