Simple But Modern Quilt Pattern? for Charity Quilts
 

Hello all, I know there are a thousand jelly roll/layer cake designs out there but have any of you got a really fresh, simple, modern pattern for charity quilts that finishes around twin size?

Here is why I am asking...my friend and I both work full time, and we split the piecing between us so things finish up faster. We are on the hunt for a single pattern we can make up over and over...we figure if we are very familiar with it we can get pretty efficient and fast at completions.

But we want something a little different, a little fresh, not just a rectangles and squares Yellow Brick Road kinda look (much as I love that quilt pattern...it was the first one I bought as a new quilter!).

I’ve also sewn a large square with a 2 color sashing. Put 4patch cornerstones of same color as sashing, just rotated

I just made a four patch frenzy quilt with black and white using batiks and a couple prints that l looks quite modern. It has large blocks and goes together really fast

Use a centre panel or panel prints, then border it up with fabrics.

Make a Jumbo block ... as the centre/focal point of the quilt.
Then just extend the quilt size with background fabric.
Works great, if you have larger pieces of fabric for the background.

A Jumbo Churn Dash could work well, with the centre being a kids print or a panel.
The background could be plain or another kids print.

Or a Friendship Star, with each point and the centre in a different colours and/or prints.

Or any sort of a motif in the centre.
Then fill in the background and border as you wish.

Another easy block is carpenter’s star. You can cut your HST to any size you want to make the appropriate size

The pattern uses paired 6"and 5 1/2" squares of print and background fabric - but these could be reduced to 5" and 4.5" squares, to get 2 smaller blocks from a layer cake square.

"The Man Quilt" is my go-to, quick and easy quilt pattern. The pattern gives 5 sizes. It is just squares and rectangles, but I like it. Here's a link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1500404...rn-pdf-digital You can make it as scrappy as you want.

I think the fa rice used has a lot to whether a pattern - such as churn dash, for example - looks. Modern or not.

I just bought this pattern. J Michelle Watts designs. It can be as scrappy as you want to make it. It was two sizes, the larger is a twin.

This may work for you to try. It would be easy to increase the size to fit a twin bed. Its called modern day cowboy throw, but that is because of the print used, so any print will do. Its great you and your friend share in piecing the charity quilts. Its a free pattern.
