JoAnn Fabrics files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in a year

For those who might not have seen it, JoAnn Fabrics is once again looking for a buyer and there's a good likelihood of it being sold to a liquidator and shut down.

Craft Retailer JoAnn Fabrics Files Second Bankruptcy in a Year

I haven't been to Joann store in years and it's close by. The manager was very rude to customers and mean to her staff so I haven't been back ever. I don't give fabric/quilt/craft shops a second chance at customer service especially when other fabric shops and Hobby Lobby craft, and Michaels are just as close to me.

We actually have none of those (and I don't live in a rural area), plus I won't shop at Hobby Lobby. JoAnn was supposed to open about 1/2 hour away this spring, but it looks like that won't happen now. I have to mail order all fabrics and supplies unless I want to drive 1 1/2 hours.

This saddened me because it's really the only place in town to get reasonably priced fabrics (if you wait for a sale). Our Michaels store doesn't sell fabrics and their yarn department has become pitiful in the past couple of years. And I too won't shop at Hobby Lobby. Interestingly Joann is next to Big Lots which is liquidating right now, so that will leave a huge space empty.

I just watched a YouTube video on this subject, so hopped online and read a couple report's on it. I'm planning on going to my closest one on Friday, about 45 minutes away, going to get some fleece. It will be sad if this store closes at some point, but unfortunately it doesn't look good.

I will miss their legacy muslin ☹️ it is by far the very best!

Our store here in Davenport has an abundance of everything. Someone once said that other stores that were closing had to send a certain amount of their unsold goods here. I love the variety. Davenport has great employees, Jeremy (manager), Erin, and Joyce are all wonderful. If this store closes I'll be forced to drive to the other side of town to Hobby Lobby and pay higher prices. Michaels is on the opposite side of town also, but only sells a very limited amount of fat quarters. Please stay open JoAnns'!

Went in November when Fleece sale was on. Cutting line had two workers with 10-12 people in line with cart loads of bolts. Yesterday, two checkers and 14 people in line. Manager open a new register with an additional checker, then closed one register and walked away. Customers seem to be an inconvenience to them.

My JA is not inviting. I do not enjoy my experience while spending money! I only go if I have to. I would manage my store much different. The cutters would be friendly and knowledgeable. Employees would smile. Store would be clean. Unfortunately, I'm retired and can not afford to bail them out!

Yes, Joann just closed out a really big store here in DFW. It was in an area that demanded very high rents, so it's not surprising.

Aashlely333, you wouldn't want to bail them out anyway. They are losing money, so no one will bail them out. You would be throwing your money down the drain.

Think about it, though. How many people do you know who sew (we're not counting your guild)? I haven't made a garment in 40 years. I just took up quilting a few years ago. Their artificial flowers were very expensive compared to the competition. Quilting is the only craft I do.

So, where are their new customers coming from? Basically, we're all dying off.

And don't forget Amazon for people's non fabric needs. You don't even have to leave the house..
