Virtual Quilting Weekend 8/8-8/10/25
Hello from Tennessee. Well the sewing room still isn't totally put together and organized but i do have a couple machines out and can quilt. I actually went to a quilt of valor session at the local shop last Saturday (7 minutes from house :) ) and quilted. So technically I could quilt BUT my mom and one of my sisters are coming for a week long visit. So no quilting for me this weekend. I might be able to do some handwork hopefully. I'm so eager to get back to quilting!
So what are you all working on this weekend? Next month's VQW will be September 5-7. Any questions, please ask :) |
Getting re-settled can take a bit... still working on it here after almost 2 years :)
I wasn't doing much sewing for quite awhile with one thing or another, but I'm picking up speed -- especially with my new Juki straight stitch primary machine. Is not perfect, but it is definitely a step up from my other options -- so fast and smooth and quiet. Friday I have some long neglected borders to put on my Labyrinth Way project. Saturday I will be going on a Fabric Acquisition Road Trip (FART) as part of the Illinois Shop Hop. One of the ladies in my sewing group wants to hit all 69 participating (and a couple extra) shops!! I get to go along for the ride and the good times. Saturday's trip is "western central" and we are going from Nauvoo to Oneida. I'm only going along on some of the trips -- am not doing the overnight to Chicago among other excursions. Don't have any planned to go along after this one, but you just never know :) |
Good evening Heather and other quilting members.
I’m in and my projects goals = (1) bind 2 top by machine; (2) quilt 2 baby tops; (3) join in the virtual QAL for sewing on Aloha mystery clue #1, so I’m ready for next week’s clue. (4) In my spare time iron the Hugh stacks of string fabric for my spring fling with strings QAL (it’s over), but I still want to work on it for the next few months. I like the final reveal. Oh, and lastly water my fall veggie garden. That should keep me entertained this weekend. Tonight set up and maybe start quilting one of the baby tops. Trim one of the quilts needing binding and iron the binding for the quilt. Friday = bind 1 quilt; quilt 1 baby top and get the next one ready to quilt; iron some of my strips. Trim 1 quilt and get binding ready to sew on the quilt. Saturday = sew with the virtual QAL with cotton cut clue; sew binding on quilt #2; iron on strings and quilt another baby top. Sunday = complete ironing on my string fabric selection. And finish any projects not done before. Post some pic for show and tell. |
I am slowly working on machine quilting my Under the Stars quilt. I didn’t use any batting this time, just a fuzzy blanket as the backing.

I'm in as much as I can be. Lots of other things going on. I have to do some media listings for the orchestra I play in (lots of websites they want them posted on). We start rehearsing for the first concert Tuesday. That being said, I am working on a potato chip quilt. Have three of 16 blocks put together. It starts with a center block, with chips sewn around it. I started with strip sets cut to size instead of piecing umpteen million blocks together. Much quicker and less tedious.

August already! Happy to join ya'll!
I have fallen down the drawstring pouch rabbit hole! At least I haven't purchased fabric specifically for them! All scraps, yeah! They are so fun. I've used a range of square sizes, 18" to 10". I decided to sell them for $10 each at our guild's Market fundraiser, no matter the size. Not planning to make a living, just want to participate/contribute to guild. Today, I plan to add the binding to a patiently waiting kaleidoscope quilt, but my sister is a hot mess and needs my help this morning with some computer/printing stuff. And, I need to sandwich the Firecracker flattie, which involves ironing the backing, my least favorite activity. The beach waves have been flat, but maybe on Sunday I'll take a break from sewing. My new boogie board arrived! |
Still waiting on the arrival of the acrylic table top extension for my BabyLoc Jazz II machine, so I won't be quilting anything until it finally arrives. But Ido have two quilt tops cut out and waiting to be sewn so will work on those.
Iceblosson....your FART sounds like fun...enjoy yourself! |
I'm Baaack! Hopefully with obtainable goals for the weekend.
1. Add diamond sashing to my version of the Harrisonburg quilt. 2. Layer and quilt a baby quilt - Noah's Ark 3. Add the binding to the quilt baby quilt and call it done 4 Finish the binding on a donation quilt. With those bits out of the way, I should be able to start next week's projects with a clear conscience enough drive to finish a project. |
I am working on a 3 yard quilt. I bought the fabric a while back and I love it. 3 yard quilts are easy quilts to make but sometimes it takes me longer to make simple blocks than more detailed ones. And I will be working on my August project - making a pillowcase a day for CASA.

I’m not sure what I will be sewing this weekend. I’ve been working diligently on a cross stitch project after saying in 1988 I’d never do that again.LOL so far I’ve enjoyed it and the change from machine sewing. My OMG (one monthly goal) project is to complete and wool mat. That’s about half done already. Maybe I’ll actually finish that this weekend.
