Virtual Quilting Weekend--11/7-11/9/25

Welcome to the November VQW. I have several WIPs I could work on this weekend. Or continue organizing the basement sewing room. Or finish prepping for next week's retreat. Or quilt some of the pile of tops waiting. So many choices! Late tomorrow afternoon I will be taking a machine maintenance class. Although I've been quilting for more than 15 years, this is the first time I've ever taken a class like this. I think DH and I are headed to the local zoo in the morning, which is about 15 minutes from us. Still getting to know our new community!

So what are your plans for this weekend?

Next month's VQW will be December 12-14, 2025.

Thank you for hosting again.

In getting to know my new community, I am going to be part of a guild mini-retreat which will be from Friday afternoon through Saturday (early) dinner. We meet in a church basement so they want us out before Sunday.

So I hope to be back on Sunday with a picture of my completed Dragon Hoard quilt. I have all the pieces, they are numbered and ready to be put together. Been timing/saving this to do at the retreat.

Next up is cleaning up and preparing for the Bonnie Hunter project. Despite my attempts at not buying fabric, some yardage got ordered and should be delivered sometime tomorrow. So lots of prewashing hot pinks and purples in my future...

That's a pretty full sewing weekend, virtual or not.

I in, we're at the cabin though Monday and I brought my FW and 2 projects. So when we are not working on our cabin I will be sewing while staying at the neighbors cabin..

I’ve got the backing fabric for my baby quilt ironed and hope to get the backing sewn together and the quilt finished and bound this weekend, with a week to spare before the baby shower. I have an idea for a cute label, too.

Thanks, I always enjoy seeing and hearing about people’s projects. I will work on the hand stitching of a binding on and off as time permits, and I am hosting a 2 hour zoom on Saturday for the guild, so if all goes well, I will get this binding done, and then will need to wash the quilt as I used a washable marker on it.

I am back in for another go at adding the binding to one quilt and finishing the remainder of my exchange blocks. Should those two projects come to an end, I have a few other quilt tops to be layered and quilted. ;)

I've been debating for a couple of weeks about moving at least one machine, a small table for cutting and ironing back into the house in what is my TV room. It's also the room where I cross stitch. Winter forcasts for Iowa are suppose to be colder than usual and having to be out on the three season porch isn't exactly inviting to me in my advanced age of 73. We have two space heaters out there, but it takes a while to warm the area up enough to be comfortable for hours of mindless sewing. Plus I can just see the electric meter spinning like a top. It will be cramped in the TV/stitching room, but warm. Probably will have to go back and forth for a while to get needed items, but that won't take long hopefully. Handsome hubby and I will start moving things back into the warm area later this morning and then maybe I can get something accomplished.

I do something similar with the moving but during the summer. My studio, separated from the house, doesn’t have AC so in the summer I drag what I need to a spare bedroom upstairs in the house so I can continue to sew comfortably. It seems like the trips necessary to get all the things I need will never end as I remember one more item I need. But eventually it all settles down only to be reversed months later. Works for me so I can continue to sew. We do what we have to do. I do have heat in the studio.

I will be attending a Gathering of the Guilds all day Saturday so not much sewing will get done this weekend. I’ll be routing everyone else along this round. Have fun!

I am about halfway through my pixel quilt, 5 rows of 10 blocks. Each block is 100 squares that finish at 8". It is starting to look like a fancy fish! I also finished my cross stitch project yesterday and have been looking for the next one.
Here is a pic of my finished CS.

Well, today I have no sewing in mind as I have to travel to tell my brother in a nursing home that our mother passed away yesterday. On Saturday I'll get back to working on my French Braid as I'm being held up on the next quilt on the frame until my sister tells me which thread colors she wants me to use on it. The French Braid is going to take some time as I have to figure things out as I go. I just realized I'll have to remove the side sashings down about 6 inches, add an extension so that I can miter them with the top and bottom sashings. Slow going but will be so worth it as this will be my quilt for my full size bed. I want it to reach the floor on the sides.
