when someone has a problem with their machine the first thing I say is "rethread it" that solves a LOT of problems. Well I was sure that wouldn't fix my problem with my Janome 6600P. I used the auto thread cutter, got up and pressed the seam, sat back down and the top thread just wadded up "somewhere" down there around the thread cutter. I took it apart and cleaned real good, none too soon either. I oiled it up and tried again, same thing.. I was really upset becasue she's only 3 mos. old and I'm 75 miles from the dealer. Well I cleaned house and pouted for 4 days untill I had the time to go, so I called the day before to see what time he gets in, he answered the phone and said he gets in at 10 o'clock. I said I'd be there to meet him so he asked what was her symptoms, I told him and he said "did you rethread?", I said "NO I think it's hanging on the thread cutter somehow, he said No the thread came out of the takeup lever, I said hold on, let me look, well what do you know? :oops: So now I'm happily sewing again and still have all my money that I would have spent at the quilt store. I can't believe my bff didn't insist that I do that but she probably figured I did before I started whinning.

When in doubt, always re-thread...if nothing else, you know that is not the problem...

Yup yesterday I was ready to throw my machine out the window, Hours later and fiddling with the bobbin, that was what was wrong it had come off the take up leaver somehow! Good grief such a simple fix and we get stumped!!

Same thing happened to me! I was sewing along merrily and suddenly all my tension was gone, rethreaded the top, turned her off, started her up, tension still made. I was about ready to return her!! LOL Went to pull the bobbin thread out to see if there was dust or something, and sure enough the thread had come off the little catch down there. Funny how much of difference that makes!! Fixed the thread and got back to merrily sewing along. LOL

I knew a lady that bought a new machine just because hers wasn't sewing right, she was going to throw itout. Well, I KNEW this gal, and that she wasn"t real knowlegable about sewing, so I asked her if I could trade her a wallhanging for ther machine. Got it home, re-threaded the bobbin and the top, turned the needle the right direction and it worked like new. Actually it wasn't but a few years old and top of the line. I gave it to a young girl that was just learning the basics of sewing from me, and now, 20 years later, she is still using it.

Kathy, I'm really glad you shared this story. There are MANY of us who have done the exact same thing.

Pros and cons with not going to the store. Yes you have your machine in good working order, some time to sew and that money in your pocket, but you could have gotten a new project, new pattern, some new fabric, etc! :lol:

Now that is a GREAT repair tech :D:D:D Most wouldn't have taken the time to ask and have you check. I am happy to hear that took care of your problem!

That was sweet of the gentleman to "help" you over the phone . Sometimes we get so upset about things so close to us, that we forget to check the simple things :?

Sorry you missed a shopping trip , but next time you can spend more :wink:

your bff described her problem to you and pointed out that in her case the thread had come out of the little arm thingie.

that was a hint so she wouldn't have to embarrass you by asking if you'd tried rethreading.

clearly, your bff gave you too much credit.

I have a 6600 and this is the worst thing about the machine. Mine "unthreads" about once a square when you use the thread cutter because I think it cuts the threds too short and they recoil when you take the piece out a certain way.
