I made these quilts for a little girl last year. I just read a post from 'hospicenurse' and she said she was banned from 'Quilts for Kids' because she used monofilament thread. I used monofilament thread on these two quilts. What should I do about these quilts that I have already given away?

Wouldn't they just tell her not to do it again instead of "banning" her? Seems a little extreme to me.

As for your quilts, I don't think there's much you can do if they have already been donated.

I wouldn't worry too much if they haven't contacted you yet.

That is their requirement. The reason--this thread doesn't break easily and when it is wrapped around little fingers if it gets loose can cut off circulation. The same thing can happen if you tie your quilts and don't cut the tied thread short enough.

Now, lots of people quilt with this type of thread for kids and I have never heard or read that the above has happened.

I would not worry about it. You have already given them away and not a had a negitive response. I do not know why the Hospice denied the Mono threat. They may not be quilters. My group send uilts out all the time some with mono thread and we have never had a complaint. So keep up your good work, and God Bless you.

I would say a prayer about it and rest assured that they will not injur any one. I never thought about that but I had a friend who said her neighbor brought her baby over because she wouldn't stop crying, my friend noticed two fingers turning blue, on close inspection she found one of mom's long hairs would around them. If a hair would cause problems I'm sure that thread could be worse. Makes me glad that when I tried the other day it kept messing up and I gave up. but polyester thread would be just as bad, have you ever tried to break it?

If hair can do it so can regular thread. Accidents can happen with anything. I used regular thread on mine because they ask you to.

Beautiful! Sorry about the mono thread :( where did you find the princess panel?

KathyAire 08-24-2010 06:50 AM

I bought the panel on eBay. I just looked and the only thing available right now is fleece. I've bought the same panel about six different times from eBay. When I was in the market for them, I just looked everyday until I found them. If you are really interested, you will have to be patient and keep looking until you find it.

Please do not worry about it. It is a requirement for that organization. Many comercial bedding items for children are made with that monofillament thread including comforter, quilts and bed covered pads.

The main reason I do not use it because I hate sewing with it and the stuff makes my skin itch.

It is very kind of you to have made these beautiful quilts and I am sure they are loved.
