I've been talking to hubby about buying a new machine/embroidery machine for Xmas on HSN , where they have the "easy pay" plans. This is the only way I could afford a new machine of any type this year.

So, I've been cruising on there and here's what they have:

A Singer Futura 150- $699
Singer Futura 250- $799
Brother SE400- $499

They also have a Brother for $799 that is an embroidery machine only, but I want one that does both.

I'm leaning towards the Brother right now, because of the price, obviously. BUT, I'm wondering if I should go ahead and get the Futura, as it seems like it has MUCH more to it. And it has great reviews.

The monthly payments are about the same, I'd have one extra payment with the Futura.

Is the Futura that much better? I'd love to hear from anyone who has any of these.

Hi, This is Ruth. I have the Futura 150 and love it but for $100 more I would go for the 250. My Futura has served me well for about 6 years. Hope this helps. Happy Quilting!

I think the Brother is more reliable today than the Singers. I have friends who are always taking their Singers to the shop and its expensive to repair. Look closely at the embroidery, the Brother seems to me much finer and nicer than the Singer.

I have a Futura and I have Brothers. I would buy the Brother any day of the week over the Futura.

The Brother that you are looking at ONLY has a 4X4 hoop!
That will limit you greatly!

Have you checked out a Babylock? Brother and Babylock are made by the same company. They are a very high quality machine. I've had one for 13 years. It does both sewing and embriodery in very smooth action. Don't know how the prices compare, but all my friends and several sisters and daughters have them and love them. Never needed a repair in all those years and I sew a LOT! :) :-) :)

I have a Futura and it has a 5 x 7 and 4 x 4 hoop and I have been trying to get it to work for 9 months. Either way always do the classes if they are offered as soon as possible. They are being very nice and have even ordered me a new installation CD.

I've had my futura for almost a year now and really like it. I chose this one because it takes any format design.

I"d LOVE to have a Babylock, but just can't afford one. The main reason I will be getting one this XMAS is I can do the "easy pay" option on HSN.

I have the 250 and love it! I have all the attatchents from them. I would suggest if you do get it and have store that offers free sewing machine classes go! I bought mine from hsn about 7 months ago and it does take some getting used to but it is fun to sew with!
