While cleaning some things out of Mama's house preparing for sale of estate or turn over to Medicaid, I found a box of butterfly quilt blocks.
Mama evidently pieced these years ago and forgot about them. There are 20 different ones. Each hand appliqued onto unbleached muslin. Here are some photos. Some of the butterflies look skewed, but it's the angle in which I photographed them. Couldn't seem to get them all, as I was afraid I would fall when my husband held the chair for me to stand in. Could someone advice me how to best set them together and with what colors? Thanks! |
Beautiful!

Wow what a neat find

I think that a nice floral print sashing and borders would help tie the colors together.
The butterflies are very pretty... Your Mom did a great job on them! |
Good find. If your mama is still here, it would be a wonderful surprise if you could finish the quilt for her. If not, maybe for one of her grandchildren.

What a great discovery! You could do may colors for the sashing. I'd probably try to match the fabric of the butterfly bodies. Are they a dark brown or black?

OMGosh....what a wonderful find! You must be thrilled!!

Your butterflies will make a beautiful quilt and a great family memory from your mom. What concerned me more was your comment about turning the house over to Medicaid. Do Americans lose homes to pay for medical bills? That just doesn't happen in Canada. It doesn't seem right to me that a senior would have to lose her house to pay health care costs.

I love the butterflies - Lucky you!

The part in the middle is black. I have some fabric that is yellow with different color butterflies. Here's a picture (didn't turn out too good).
Would this work? |
