I saw this on Oregon Public Broadcasting...Very simple to make! People wrote me and asked for a tutorial....in one hour I had it made -- Iincluding taking the pictures!!!
The original video said to use grosgrain ribbon. I only had regular ribbons on hand. I'm going to use fray-check on the ends to keep them from unraveling. You can make any size box you want....and adjust the sides to what size suits you. I refolded my fat-quarters to make them fit nicely. Enjoy! Sew 1/4" around the sides leaving an opening for turning [ATTACH=CONFIG]102428[/ATTACH] Original video said to mark 2" in on all sides [ATTACH=CONFIG]102429[/ATTACH] Turn and press, topstitch 1/4" from edge [ATTACH=CONFIG]102430[/ATTACH] Cut 1/4" ribbons. Add 6" to each end of the box (if box is 8", cut ribbon 20") [ATTACH=CONFIG]102623[/ATTACH] The original box -- with fat quarters [ATTACH=CONFIG]103331[/ATTACH] Cut 2 pieces of fabric...any size you want -- this is 8" x 7" - original one was larger [ATTACH=CONFIG]103332[/ATTACH] Cut Iron-On fleece the same size [ATTACH=CONFIG]103333[/ATTACH] Pin the corners and double check what you have --- Because my box was small, I reduced the 2" to 1 1/2" [ATTACH=CONFIG]103355[/ATTACH] This is what the inside will look like [ATTACH=CONFIG]103522[/ATTACH] Pull up the corners and tie ribbons in a bow. [ATTACH=CONFIG]103523[/ATTACH] Lay the ribbon on the line you drew and stitch with decorative stitch. Sew from the topstitch line to the topstich line! I glued my ribbon down so it wouldn't slip on me. [ATTACH=CONFIG]103527[/ATTACH] Repeat for the other two ribbons [ATTACH=CONFIG]103596[/ATTACH] |
I have made these before and you did a great job on this. I have placed cardboard in the center to make the bottom firm too. I do this when I am using them in a drawer as a divider. Thanks!!!!

Thanks, np3! That's a great idea about the cardboard. I've also thought about using the plastic canvas so they'd be washable!
