My step-granddaughters are 6 & 9, they are spending the weekend with me and my DH.
Tonight after dinner I taught them how to use my Singer 201 handcrank machine. They were making quilt blocks from my scraps and were having so much fun. I used a long refridgerator magnet for a seam guide as my machine doesn't have markings on the throat plate; it really helped them guide the fabric easier. They've been wanting to learn to sew for about the last year and I didn't want them to use an electric machine yet. They picked up how to use it fairly quickly. The older girl even tried the treadle, she decided she wasn't ready for that yet.
The finished quilts will be for their dolls and maybe later on we'll make some more for their beds.

I am amazed at both my son's friends(girls) do not sew or have parents that sew. They are so amazed that I do. I will slowly corrupt them all.

Wow, wish I had an opportunity like that. Don't have my grandchildren near.

My grandkids love my quilting, they girls want to do some sewing, and the boys look at my sewing books and pick out blocks and patterns for them. I have so many sticky notes with names on them in my books they are difficult to open. LOL I have a toy ironing board and iron in my sewing room for them to play with, and give them a scrap bag to play with. My scrap bag has a lot of tape holding pieces together with a lot of buttons taped on too. I take a sewing machine and take the needle out to allow them to pretend to sew. Have fun!

How cool that they are interested and enjoyed themselves. Just wish sewing could catch the interest of my grands. . . .
