Items for sale or trade??
Why are all the threads on "items for sale or trade" closed?

I don't know, it's easier to see what has been sold when the thread is open and then you don't have to contact the seller if it's listed as already gone.

Because they are trying to force people to respond via private message to the sellers. The downside that I see, is that it makes it difficult for the seller to update availability since they now have to go through the moderators to make any updates.

it isn't a rules change.
it's just a change to procedures.
the "for sale" threads are locked upon approval so that:
1. all communication between sellers and buyers takes place by PM; and
2. to ensure that threads remain visible in the order in which they were posted [newest first.] that keeps the "playing field" level and fair to all sellers.
moderators do not make updates to thrift shop posts.
we are not a shopping site, a selling site, or any other type of marketplace.
the thrift shop is just a "little extra something" and is not at all part of our mission.
