How to get spell check working?
I have tried using my spell check on my computer and it just makes the message disappear. I tried the spell check on the message and the first time it said I had to download something so I did. Now it does nothing. What am I missing ?

FireFox has a built-in spell checker. no need to install anything else.

I have google, and yahoo. My spell check on google just makes the whole thing disappear even the little bar, over There > that makes the message move up and down. |
i recommend you switch to firefox.

So what I am understanding is if I don't switch to Firefox spell check is not going to work on this forum.
I happen to be very comfortable with what I have . I have had Firefox before and was not all that happy with it. But thanks anyway. |
whether or not a spell-checker built into different software will work at our site has nothing whatsoever to do with our site.
i suggested FireFox because that's what i use and i didn't need to install anything extra in order for its spell checker to work ... regardless of which site i happen to be on. there's no rule that says you must switch. it was just a suggestion based on the fact that what you are using does not work. |
but Patrice. I am talking also about the spell check that is on this site. Right above where all the little icons are. IF I could get that to work I would be happy. I guess I wasn't clear enough in my first post.
|
well, that's a good one on me.
i don't see a spell-checker icon in my editor - even when i Go Advanced. soooooo ... that must be the result of the "something" you downloaded? my habit in cases like that is to immediately uninstall any "something" i install that doesn't work - especially if it creates a mess within programs that did work before. i take risks with my quilts but never with my computer. too much money at stake, and i am so cheap my skates won't roll. LOL maybe somebody else will come along who is familiar with your "something" and can provide some tips. i will keep my fingers crossed for you. |

How odd.As you can see in the picture its there. That little icon was there before and when I clicked on it was when it said to download. I will go into my programs and see if I can find it and get rid of the program . HMMM
I keep getting lines from my screen but I think you can see it. |

Ok went in and the only program I didn't recognize was iespell. So I took it off. Then I came here and clicked on the little abc icon again and this is what came up. so at least now I know I'm not crazy. lol

i knew all along that if one of us was crazy ... it wasn't you. LOL
i logged in through MS Internet Explorer using one of my Secret Squirrel test accounts. I also see the little green check icon. I do not recall ever seeing it before. That doesn't mean it wasn't there all along. it just means that either it's something new, or I simply overlooked it. I then logged in using Safari; again using Google Chrome. No little green check. either a recent Windows/IExp update has added that "lovely" little option to lure users into downloading the ieSpell add-in, or it's been there all along. the "ie" indicates to me that it's associated somehow to IExp. how or why is anybody's guess. since i didn't see it in any of the other browsers, it must also be exclusive to IExp. since it clearly does not work and play well with your computer the only advice i can offer is to never click that little green check again - ever. this is just a guess ... i'm not sure i'm on the right track because you said you were using Google and Yahoo. I don't have a clue how either of those factors in. i don't go anywhere near Yahoo and i only use google to search for things. still hoping that somebody else who is familiar with it will come along and be able to help you. in the meantime ... little green check ... bad ... very baaaaaad. LOL |
Thanks Patrice. Well isn't that a sneaky little thing. I guess everyone will just have to deal with my misspelled words. LOL Somedays I can spell well others I have trouble spelling my own name. lol

I use IE and I've always had the ABC green check showing since the new format, as I remember clicking on it back in November, and getting the same message about the download, but I didn't download it.

I have the spell check too, but it doesn't work. However the spell check does work in other programs. I'm running IE
|
I believe it has something to do with your computer operating software. I use Windows 7 and it doesn't like the built in spell check. If I'm really concerned about my spelling, I'll open Word and copy and paste my message and use its spell check. Needless to say, I don't do that often enuf.
|
What version software are you using? I think it may have something to do with that. Seems to me I up upgraded and had all kinds of problems and then I had to fall back.
