Thanks, Sadiemae and ghostrider for your information. I tested a photo post to the 'Test Your Pictures Here' thread in the Pictures section. It was a .jpg file 54kb. It came up fairly large so I suppose keeping the picture files small helps and it uploaded to the Board quickly.

humbird 11-04-2011 05:34 AM

no photos in the gallery

I used to go to the gallery often just to look at all the lovely quilts. Now, all I get there is a red X but when I click on it, it won't bring up the quilt. Perhaps it's just my computer. I am so dissapointed.

I was so comfortable with the old board, and wonder why "the powers that be" thought it necessary to make such drastic changes. So frustrating.

cherrio 11-04-2011 05:50 AM

you are not alone viewing red x's. a bug that will work out I hope

dunster 11-04-2011 05:51 AM

I also have only the red x's in the gallery, but I see pictures on most other threads. Hopefully it's a problem that can and will be fixed.

emsgranny 11-04-2011 05:52 AM

I know what you mean - there is an attachment section that shows all the attachments you have done ie pictures from prior classifieds on old system - do we delete those or will they delete if we delete the ad (of course I dont know how to do this either lol) HELP!!!!

orangeroom 11-04-2011 05:54 AM

I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed in new site. I am as well. I attempted to pop into live chat this morning. You wouldn't believe how irritating it is to be reading a post and 1/2 way through it, have the site automatically scroll up to ~4 minutes previous in the conversation. Every time a new post is added, the 'live chat' becomes...look what was written/posted minutes ago! What a pain in the tuccus!

vljens6080 11-04-2011 05:56 AM

I am having the same problem with getting a red X and when I click on it, it won't bring up the pictures on my computer either. Is there a setting or something I have to change?

Thanks for any help you can give me but in the meantime, I am plugging along trying to find where things are located and, remembering WHERE I saw them  Think I just might have to resort to the old fashioned way of using a pencil and paper to write the information found down LOL!

Once uploaded, they do not delete even if the thread is deleted. Photos I posted during the testing period are still in my attachment section, but all the testing threads are gone for obvious reasons. I don't believe you can delete the ad either, just edit. Read the Terms of Service, the section on Content.

Caroline S 11-04-2011 06:11 AM

Add me to the list. I THINK the problem is due to the size of the photo I tried to upload. I see that there is a limit of 1.91 megabites and most of mine are over that. At this point I do not know how to reduce the mb's. That was not a problem before the change.

Shirls4sons 11-04-2011 06:13 AM

I also am getting only red X's. And I thought it was only me....sure glad this thread was started so that I know we are all in the same RED boat!

Caroline S 11-04-2011 06:18 AM

Thanks for the photo uploading hints. Will try to see if it works for me.

This is strange, I'm not getting a red x. I can view the photos in the gallery. It isn't set up like before, but there are plenty of quilt pics there.

ranger 11-04-2011 09:22 AM

This is what I did.

1. Clicked POST NEW THREAD.
2. Printed my message.
3. Scrolled down to MANAGE ATTACHMENTS. Clicked it. This opened a new window.
4 In new window saw UPLOAD FILES FROM YOUR COMPUTER.
5. Clicked BROWSE. Found my pic and opened it.
6. Clicked UPLOAD.
7. Waited about 1/2 minute.
8. Underneath the UPLOAD FILES FROM A WEBSITE, saw new area called CURRENT ATTACHMENTS with my pic name.

REMEMBER.......YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT A BIT FOR THE PIC TO ATTACH.

Hope this helps. E-mail me if you are having trouble.

quiltingsavta 11-04-2011 09:58 AM

I've been reading all the posts, but another problem I'm having is the icons are not active. I have gone into my settings to see if there was anything there that could change them and haven't found anything. Can someone comment on this? Thank you in advance. I believe several people are having this issue. I'm thinkin that once this is corrected, the photos will upload.

Ilovemydogs 11-04-2011 10:22 AM

Here is how to resize your pics. Once you have the right size, then uploading is easy, just Like Ranger explained.

1. open your picture up
2. right click, then click edit
3. will open in the paint program
4. click on image (the top toolbar)
5. click on stretch/skew
6. you will see 2 sections, one for stretch and one for skew
7. under the stretch, change the percentages to 50% each and click ok,
8. Repeat steps 4-7 again.
9. then click file, save as, type in a name, make sure it says jpeg and voila! smaller pics

barb55 11-04-2011 10:43 AM

I would like to know also

QandE2010 11-04-2011 11:55 AM

I don't know how I got there, but I used this link and it took me to all the forums. (Still feeling my way around.)

Pictures don't upload. How big are your pic's?

Pictures that I posted before won't upload now. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

darlene37 11-04-2011 02:43 PM

When click on a site to read and see a pic on here I don't get a pic to come up even though everyone on it says haw nice the pic is. I don't know if I have to click on something or what.

Ilovemydogs 11-04-2011 02:47 PM

Try resizing the pics, here are some steps

1. open your picture up
2. right click, then click edit
3. will open in the paint program
4. click on image (the top toolbar)

6. you will see 2 sections, one for stretch and one for skew

spartan quilter 11-04-2011 03:29 PM

I have to post to this thread, so I can keep looking for an answer, because I just went to the gallery and got the red X. I am hoping for a fix, or a way that we can open them ourselves. And I don't have dial up, so it has nothing to do with my internet speed.

mzzzquilts 11-04-2011 04:30 PM

Do you see a "paperclip" along side the title of the post? If so, click that, then another box pops up, then click the file name in that box, the picture then should pop up.

nance-ell 11-04-2011 04:33 PM

Wellllll..... learn something new everyday! I never realized our attachments were "attached" to our account. I haven't posted nearly as much as some folks, so I guess still have room! lol Thanks for the info.

ssuzz 11-04-2011 06:44 PM

posting pictures

I read how to download pictures.. nowwhere can I find a browse button...tried to send pictures 3 times now can fid no way to do so.

LeslieFrost 11-04-2011 06:47 PM

When you post, use Go Advanced. Under where you type your message, way down the page, you'll find Manage Attachments. You can post pics from your computer, which is where the Browse button is. You can only post one at a time (as far as I can tell). All of the pics on my computer turned out to be too big, so I picked up Easy Thumbnails, a free program that works with Windows, and converted all of my quilt pics to thumbnails, and now I can post!

Hope this helps.

How to post more than one pic?

I figured out how to post a pic, but could only figure out how to post one. I can I do more than one.

Also, where is the help area I found the first day? I clicked on what I needed help with, then it showed me exactly where to click and in what order. Maybe I will find it before this is answered!!

Thanks.

Copying pictures

Sometimes I am able to download a picture of a quilt that strikes me as special in some way, but more often I am getting "can't be downloaded" messages. On those the final "g" of .jpeg is missing! Is there a new ability to let or not let one's photo be downloaded? Is doing this a violation of some rule?

I've gone thru all the 7 pages (so far) of these "help" threads and have not seen the problem of not being able to copy photos that I want to keep. Am I the only person who likes to copy pics of quilts that are posted? I have no intention of making exactly THAT quilt, but often like a block shape, or color combinations, or, in the case of landscape or art quilts I just like to look at them (and yes, I study the details of all the quilts and learn a lot that way also!). Frankly, I couldn't touch what most of the quilters on this board do!!!

Also, I have 7 grandchildren ages 7 to 15 (5 girls and 2 boys) who have some level of interest in quilting. I share some of the very pretty but simpler pics with them to inspire. Four have made quilts with me, one started with me but took off on her own. They love looking at what others have done; it helps them decide what they want to do.

Why is there no "g" on jpeg?

mzzzquilts 11-05-2011 12:14 PM

In order to open any file, your computer needs to know what program you want it to open with. What your statement is telling me is that you don't have a file association set to open a .jpe file. Please post what your operating system is (example, Windows XP, Windows 7, Vista, etc.), and I'll be able to show you how to easily set up that file association.

RkayD 11-05-2011 12:20 PM

I do the same thing..I love to use them as my screen savers for the ultimate dream saver. =) I hope thats not a feature thats gone with the wind...

Picture Viewing

When we went live the other day, I was able to view pictures. Now, when I open a post with pictures I just see "attached images" with a paper clip. What am I doing differently?

TIA

QuiltnNan 11-05-2011 03:30 PM

i think you can add 5 pics by uploading them one at a time in the manager.

if you are referring to the help videos, they are located in the link in Patrice's Welcome announcement at the top of the Forum pages.

Sigh....... my pictures always fail. They are too big as stored on my computer. I will have to re-size my pictures to be able to post them...... :(

Jingle 11-05-2011 04:48 PM

I don't know, I can see pictures, as usual.

MoMoSews 11-05-2011 05:29 PM

The pictures are taking a lot longer to load for me. Not an issue for anything else on my computer!!!???

Why am I getting an X on my photo's

Hi Everyone,

Anyone have an idea why I can view most pictures, but get an X on others...... One of the X-ed one is my own! Haha

Mitch's mom 11-05-2011 05:41 PM

Some pictures are hosted on outside hosting sites. The way the board is currently set up, to my understanding, outside hosting is not supported. Also, if a member had pictures on an outside site and deleted them from that site you will get the red X. HTH :)
