PM issues

Here's what I learned this morning.... I think it's right....Admin correct me if there's a better way.

You can set up a few more 'folders' in your inbox...like an email site does.

Click on Notifications/Inbox then look at the left side under My Messages. Click EditFolders. Add new named folders. I made one for MISC2SAVE

Now to move PMs.
Back to Notifications/Inbox. Put a check in the PM you want to move. click Selected Messages. Check Move to Folder. Click Proceed. Pick folder (use arrow if necessary). Click Move Item. TaDa!

I believe we can only have 500 PMs total. After you save the ones you want to save, you can delete the rest in a couple of clicks.
Go to Notifications/Inbox. Scroll down towards the middle Folder Controls area. Click Empty Folder. It'll ask you again if you really want to delete all. Click Yes, if you want to delete all.

Hope this is right, easiest way and works for you.

Thanks, that info is great, but I still want to know how to delete more than 50 at a time.  Anyone know?

Editted to say, never mind....I figured it out. When you get to your PM boxes, scroll down to Edit Folders on the left hand side.
When you click on that.....your folders will show on the right side. Click on "Sent messages", then "Empty folder", then "Yes" to delete permanently. Do the same for your Inbox. Be sure to download all as text into Notepad if you want to keep the information though.

Goodness, I'm just now trying to figure out HOW to empty my mailbox w/o deleting everything!! I imagine it's going to take a while for everyone to get this done. JMHO

I"m having a hard time with working the site help. (e-mail edited out by moderator please use PM)

Lady Crafter 11-02-2011 10:30 AM

PM's

There is a "quick reply" box at the bottom, or there is also a "Reply" just after the PM. Scroll down. :-)

feffertim 11-02-2011 10:43 AM

OK, I got a message that I need to delete PM's. I followed your directions and created a folder to put the ones I want to keep, but can't figure out how to move them there. You say to click 'selected messages' but I can't find that. where is it ? I feel real stupid right now. Not loving this new site

fidgety 11-02-2011 11:17 AM

I know it is tough.... thats why I just deleted mine. It was just to much stress on me to try to do them over (1000) one at a time..

wraez 11-02-2011 12:01 PM

I have bunches of PMs over the last week regarding some fabrics I sold. I can't seem to find the member name of the person who I sent messages too. I see the member name of people who have PMd me.

do you know what I mean? I'm trying to find messages sent to a certain member with what she wanted, what I had left and how much the payment was to be. Even looking thru all of them doesn't tell me who the member is that I'm looking for.

yikes.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

Sadiemae 11-02-2011 12:38 PM

The recommended download for Private Messages is csv, if you do not have Excel, try using the text option.

needles3thread 11-02-2011 02:27 PM

I have deleted lots of pm's.........it was a good feeling to get rid of them

This is an issue we're aware of, and looking into. We should have the usernames of your sent PM recipients in place soon.

Anna.425 11-02-2011 04:03 PM

Check your Private Message boxes

I have send several private messages today and received error messages saying that my message could not go through because the recipient's box was full. If we want to use the private message function of the board we all need to check and clear out old stuff.

Murphy 11-02-2011 04:05 PM

Thanks for the tip. I will ensure mine is cleared out.

patchsamkim 11-02-2011 05:13 PM

Maybe I am just tired, but can someone please explain to me how to delete individual private messages. I can find a button that will let me delete them all, but can not figure out how to delete just some of them. Thank-you ever so much if you can help me.

valleyquiltermo 11-02-2011 05:28 PM

I cleared out a lot of messages before the change over, Now they are all back?? Plus I'm with patchsamkim can't delete just one message.

Sadiemae 11-02-2011 05:32 PM

I cleaned mine out.

dakotamaid 11-02-2011 05:37 PM

Cleared mine out but forgot to write down some info I wanted to keep!! Guess I'll be asking repetitive questions in the future. Oh well. :)

fayzer 11-02-2011 05:40 PM

There is a box at the top of each day that tells you how many messages are there for that day. Click the box beside the number of messages and a check mark will appear by each message. If you want to save any of those messages, just un-click those. Go to the bottom of the page on the right. Click on Blue box and it will give you the option to delete, file etc.

Nanamoms 11-02-2011 06:12 PM

How did you do it? I read it somewhere but can't get back there...totally lost!!

patchsamkim 11-02-2011 06:33 PM

Thank-you...thank-you...I knew there had to be a way, but just couldn't come up with it on my own. I now have a pretty well cleaned out private message box.

fayzer 11-02-2011 06:38 PM

Fast way to do it, isn't it?

Anna.425 11-02-2011 09:37 PM

Patrice, with all due respect, I put this thread in the Main area because everyone needs to know that they need to clean out their in boxes. People are not going to see it here unless they are looking for help with the board. I don't believe this is the correct place to put a notice that everyone needs to know because it won't be seen by all.

Perhaps you figured it out already...sorry I didn't get on line yesterday...
Click selected messages means to put a 'check' in the little boxes to the right of the PM.

Please tell me yes and show me how !!! I beg of you SAVE ME !!

Server would be the same size- it would be the 'space' on the server and its not cheap by no means..

Yes, you can sort by member. At your list of PM's, at the title bar above the start, there appears Title/Sender. These are interactive. Click on Sender and they will be sorted by member name. You can easily reorder the date by clicking on Date to the right.

Lilrain 11-03-2011 10:02 AM

Do I need to delete each individual message by itself? I want to save some. Is there any way to "check" the ones I don't need and do a mass delete of them?

Thank you so much. I was starting to get really frustrated.

Oh dear, I was just about to write a post saying how happy I was with the ability to save my PM's and later use Excel to sort through them. But now.... I realize I have just saved a massive file that had an error in it (no sender information) and deleted the original pm's. That is a huge problem for me. Is it at all possible that you will be able to restore all those deleted pm's to our accounts (at least on a user-by-user basis) so we can save it properly? I wouldn't have deleted them if I had known they weren't first properly saved.

How to delete some but not all PMs here?

I got not one, but FOUR, emails saying my inbox here at this quilting board is full. I suspect this is one of those things needing some tweaking because I am quite sure most of those PMs had been previously deleted. I'm guessing they never really died and got resurrected when the board got transferred here.

So how do I delete hundreds of PMs? I saw the Edit link, but that only lets you clear the entire inbox (or sent box). You can't select which ones to delete (and keep others). I can view a list of the PMs and select them, but there's no Delete button on the list pages.

I am not going to open every single PM and scroll to the bottom just so I can delete it!

Admin, or Patrice, if you read this, I basically just want to keep the few from the past month and delete the rest.

Isn't anyone else having this problem? I wiould think most of you would have far more PMs than I do.

MzMcKee 11-03-2011 12:10 PM

Lisa. I didn't have a full PM box but thought it was wise to get rid of old notes anyways. You can delete a screen page/list of PM in mass and still keep the ones you want. Open your PMs, to the far right on the same line as the INBOX you'll see a small box with a count of the PMs listed on the page. If you click in this box it will select all those listed. You can then go and click on the little box for each PM you want to keep and it will remove the check mark and not delete that PM. Now that your ready to actually delete, scroll down the page until you see a blue box that says "Selected Message", it's on the right also. There is a small down arrow in that box, click the down arrow and it will drop a menu of options:things you can do with your selected messages. One of the options is delete. Click and they are gone. Hope that helps! Mona

I seem to be having the same problem. I even tryed to delete all of them & they're still there. Also, ones I had deleted on old board are back. I, for one, need a detailed cheat sheet on how to do all these things.

Caroline S 11-03-2011 12:14 PM

Thanks MzMKee. I wish I had found this before I did a mass delete!

How do I "clean house"?

New set-up's first visit! Last week I had less than 3 pages of personal messages in my Inbox and now I have 11! How do I SELECTIVELY delete old messages AGAIN, that I had dumped in the past! I do NOT want to dump everything!
(I see the boxes to select messages, but do not see where to "delete selected messages".)
HELP!!!

twinkle 11-03-2011 04:11 PM

Use the blue box at the bottom that says selected messages, click it then delete x

(Don't forget sent messages too as you are allowed 500 in total)

THANK YOU, Mona, that's exactly the answer I was looking for. I didn't realize "Selected Messages" was a dropdown menu. Not exactly intuitive, is it?

I'm not disagreeing about deleting old notes. I HAD deleted them long before the move. They reappeared after the move. I'll go delete them when I finish this post.

Note to administrator or moderator: Usually when a post is moved to another thread, the mover PMs the poster to let them know. This wasn't done in this case. I had to really hunt to find my post. I do hope moving without informing will NOT be a feature of this new board.

can't get/receive anything.

Why am I not able to get or receive pm's?? I have been trying for 2 days now. When I try to send a pm, it says that my box is full and I cannot send any pm's. I can't receive any either. Can someone help me?

Bonnie

grammy Dwynn 11-03-2011 09:58 PM

Your box is FULL. You need to go to profile and your PM and delete some of them. We are only allowed 500 and you must have reached your limit. Good luck

MTS 11-03-2011 10:22 PM

If you want to save your PM's before deleting them permanently from your Inbox/Outbox, you can download them to your computer first.

Give it a moment to load - for some reason, the link to this page hangs a bit before fully connecting.

I couldn't find a way to delete blocks of messages, just individual messages... or all of them.

Since I had 1300 messages (yes I am a packrat) I deleted them all.

After downloading them to my computer so I can refer to them if I need to.

watterstide 11-05-2011 02:31 AM

Make sure your inbox and sent messages are cleared out...i wiped out one, and didn't realize the other was full also.
