Posting pics
Help! I am unable to add a photo to either my post or a PM. The message, "upload of file failed" comes up anytime I attempt to add a pic.
The pic is under 2 mb. I have tried on my phone and laptop. Same results. I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you! |
I don't know what the number is, but I think there is a block on new posters/members, spam prevention.
post in some of the threads that interest you. where were you trying to post pics? |
Thank you! Yes, I am trying to post pics but am very new to the boards. Probably too new to be allowed to post them Now wondering where to find the amount of time I'll have to wait to post!

The easiest way to post a picture is to send the pic to email, download it and open. Right click on the pic and select resize. I always select 800 in the first box and it auto selects the pixels in the second box. Then I click save. Save to file on the computer. Open that file in the post to upload. I use Chrome browser.

I try to keep my photos under 1mb, that way I know they'll go thru. Same for when I sending them to a friend in an email, seems you can only send so many mbs so I try to keep them small.

Is there a defined posting requirement to be able to upload pictures? I can't seem to upload even a <40kb picture.
|
Winter Quilter, a lot of people have trouble posting pictures on Quilting Board. 40kb is super tiny, though. If seems like the times I have had any problems posting pictures is when my internet goes in and out. As noted, it does take some time to load.

Welcome to Quilting Board. For some unknown reason, when one goes to post an image, it says the limit is 5MB, however the limit is actually 2MB. A lot of people have trouble posting pictures here. ...
We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf and on an ipad at https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...d-t321918.html Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button. As shown at https://www.quiltingboard.com/8565676-post4.html I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures. https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...p-location.jpg Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...d-t312607.html Another way to post pictures can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/showpo...postcount=1143 And how to use an ipad to post pictures can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...s-t318147.html and https://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-hel...d-t321918.html Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB Click on red "Reply" button Click on the paper clip icon Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post) Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload" After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post. This sometimes takes a while and is indicated in this image by the red arrow. https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...8-uploaded.jpg Some additional notes - The photos generally need to be reduced to less than 2MB in size. I have heard of people sending an email to themselves as it will ask if you want to reduce the size. I have an android phone and when I tried to reply on Quilting Board while in mobile view None of the options for adding pictures was available. However, there is an option down at the bottom left of the page that is for Full Site when I tapped on "Full Site" It then looked like the way it looks on my lap top. So it would have the Red Reply and the Go Advanced options. Do Not Preview post. |
Well it's a fairly stable, wired internet connection and it takes less than a second to upload a file of that size. I did try uploading a larger file about 1.53mb in size, which took longer before I got the error. That tells me it's uploading, and then for some reason when it's finished it's throwing an error, rather than failing to upload entirely. Just to be sure I looked in Task Manager and I can see the spike in network activity as it uploads. So I'd assume that means I have permission, but something is going wrong on the technical end. I've also tried converting the file to .bmp and .png, and even .jpeg instead of .jpg but no luck.

I've also tried converting the file to .bmp and .png, and even .jpeg instead of .jpg but no luck. I use jpg the majority of the time. I will sometimes post a jpeg as they are sent to me for the Colorado Get-Together. Have you tried both ways? 1. The Go Advanced/Manage Attachments 2. Go Advanced/Paper Clip Icon. I'm not sure I've tried the Manage Attachments on this computer. On my old computer, I tried, but for some reason didn't work. So I always use the Red Reply button so that I can get the Paper Clip icon. |
It says the image name in bold and then below that says :"Upload of file failed."
Tried through manage attachments, no dice (Already tried paperclip.) I thought maybe it just wasn't working because I was trying to start a new thread and maybe that was restricted, but it won't let me add one in this thread either. |
