Virus' have been found on your computer

Anyone else receiving this pop up while scanning posts here? I have had it now for three straight days. The only way to get rid of the message is to ctrl/alt/del and close ie.

QuiltnNan 07-25-2012 09:14 AM

here's a current thread on the topic in the QB Help Center http://www.quiltingboard.com/qb-help...p-t195682.html

yes I get that everyday and it wont let you click no don't fix you have to just exit out of the site and re log in. pain in the butt.

NJ Quilter 07-25-2012 09:28 AM

Might want to clean out the temp file on your computer also. Had this pop up from another site the other day and nothing would fix it. Couldn't get onto any other sites online either. Ran Norton and that didn't fix it. Finally cleaned out the temp file and problem solved.

chickadee_42us 07-25-2012 09:34 AM

Great suggestions - thanks for the link.

Latrinka 07-25-2012 10:25 AM

Yes, mine has a bad virus right now, one where they want your credit card info! DO NOT GIVE! There is a way to fix it, my son sent me the directions and my brother is gonna fix it for me. It's a scam!

patricej 07-25-2012 11:09 AM

i have reported the event.

quilter824 07-25-2012 11:12 AM

Glad to see its not just me.

ptquilts 07-25-2012 12:53 PM

this sounds like what I had.

nitza 07-25-2012 08:14 PM

Do not click it can download a nasty virus!

Amythyst02 07-26-2012 04:19 AM

I got it yesterday as well. I just rebooted my computer to get rid of it.

QKO 07-26-2012 05:04 AM

Go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

and get the free download and run it. This is a very reputable product, and will get rid of what ails your computer.

mzzzquilts 07-26-2012 06:19 AM

I agree with QKO! But make sure you download it BEFORE you have a problem, because most times, the virus will prevent you from getting the download. I've you've already got the virus, and you have two computers, you can download the program on the uninfected PC and use a thumb drive to transfer the needed files over to the infected PC. I did this for somebody this past weekend and have the link at home that gives all the information. Send me a message if I can help you further.

kelsunshine 07-26-2012 06:08 PM

Several times in the past few days I have had my anti-virus program pop up that it has blocked a virus attempts while I have been on QB. Glad I have a good anti-virus program

Nan C 07-26-2012 07:14 PM

Glad I was not the only one that got it.......thanks for the info.

Glenda Kay 07-27-2012 01:07 PM

Yes. I also got it. I did a complete scan of my computer immediately using Norton. Supposedly everything harmful was removed. Took awhile to do the full scan but I just got this computer & didn't want to take any chances.

Nelco 07-27-2012 01:18 PM

I got hit with it and had to take my laptop to a friend and he fixed it for me. I am not going to open any more sites from here until I here it is taken care of.

Thanks for posting this tip. I have had a crazy pop up, too. Had two unrecognizable temp files (that were just 2 days old) so deleted them.

palmetto girl 07-27-2012 04:17 PM

I also got the nasty virus, since i did not know enough of the do it your self stuff,Had to send it to the repair shop. Lost a lot of files, was expenesive to fix and now I'm trying to get things back to normal. I had mcafee security on it but that did not stop it. Hope I never have to deal with that again and neither do any of you.

I have an external hard drive I use to back up everything on my computer. So if I do ever have a problem I don't lose anything. I can just copy it back to my computer.

AdAware is another good free download. I routinely run both to clean up junk off my computer. Even the quick scan takes several hours, so I start the scan before going to bed and let it run at night.

moedersaar 07-28-2012 04:00 PM

Me too I have been bohered with ,the same as you all I went through hours of cleaing and trying to find the virus. because my warning was teling me that my computer was going to crash. what am I to do . where is all this coming from? help!!!!!

I also had this pop up on when I was looking through some back pages in General chat yesterday and my computer
said it had blocked a virus , kinda scary being that it showed up while on the QB.

farmer623 07-29-2012 10:53 AM

Virus, adware from this site

This morning when I was looking at pictures, something popped up that said it was from Microsoft and that I had gotten a virus, adware, and all kinds of bad things from this site. In my uncaffeinated state, I downloaded the program that came with it, but luckily my good sense kicked in and I didn't run the program. My son says that would have been very bad. Anyway, if this has happened to anyone else, I'd like to know. I thought there were controls connected with the Quilting Board that would prevent this sort of thing. I am now running new anti-virus protection, and hope this hasn't damaged my computer.

trish b 07-29-2012 11:04 AM

Yes! This happened to me two days ago. I did not click on the program, I just turned off the computer and ran My anti-virus protection. I did not like this at all.

Gramie bj 07-29-2012 11:20 AM

Yep I got it to, made me think I had a real problem. Then I thought it was a pop up , but I have a Pop up blocker and it is working. Did it piggy back in with this sight? Hope not!

HillCountryGal 07-29-2012 11:22 AM

Me too. It's happened many times in the past few weeks.
I too have a pop-up blocker. The only way I could get rid of the "ad" was to completely turn the computer off and start all over. Bummer.

BellaBoo 07-29-2012 11:27 AM

It did when I was using another computer and IE browser. It hasn't happened on my computer using Google Chrome at all. I was told it was a browser security problem not an internet site problem.

heberstitcher 07-29-2012 12:36 PM

Yes I got it and had to send my laptop to the "doctor". Cost me $50 to fix her. Is there some reason admin's didn't warn us of these???????????

gotta-sew 07-29-2012 12:57 PM

Same here. So disappointing. Oh should I add that it was my security software that warned me.

patricej 07-30-2012 03:25 AM

this event does not originate within the QB software itself.
although there can be no doubt that it's very annoying, your computer is in no actual danger.

tech support is aware of the situation.
they are working to identify the source ad and block it.

lillybeck 07-30-2012 03:39 AM

I had this happen to me and it took my son 2 days to get everything running right. Of course he has to do it remotely since we are in different states but, it was bad. He says that things are getting planted into everything so be very careful what you click on.

MamaHen 07-30-2012 04:47 AM

Yep, it happened to me too. Thought about it for a few minutes, shut things down and ran my anti virus. Something about it just didn't look right, and it did not show up when I was on this board.

farmer623 07-30-2012 04:47 AM

It's not an ad. It says it's from Microsoft and says your computer has been infected and you need to download a program to fix it. My new desktop sure is running slow. You need to let all of us know about this. You either need to email all of us, or put this thread back in a place where it will be more likely to be seen by everyone.

Scraps 07-30-2012 04:58 AM

It wasn't an AD - I have TWO anti virus programs that run and I also use FREE anti Malware from the net. www.malware.com - you can buy it, but they let you use it FREE and it is good. See Patricia's explanation on this thread.

judykay 07-30-2012 06:55 AM

I luckily have not had this problem but will be very aware of anything unusual popping up. I agree everyone should be aware of this and maybe the administrators could post something in the first section in stead of down at the bottom. I don't always read from this section but always read the titles in all the sections and that is how I happen to come across this . Thanks for keeping us informed.

T. 07-30-2012 08:28 AM

It happened to me too. Like you, first I thought it was l legit. I remembered that even if you click on the X to close it, you have made connection. So, what you want to do when you suspect a site, do this: hold down the "Control, Alt and delete" keys at the same time, that will bring up a menu, go to "Start Task Manager" and stop the program there.

ljfox 07-30-2012 08:38 AM

I got it too. It appeared when I was on here so it must be connected to this site somehow.

postal packin' mama 07-30-2012 10:45 AM

FYI - CAUTION: Running Quick Scan turned up nothing, but running Full Scan did turn up a virus!

On this QB site, the last ones I've gotten (have been several recently) said the virus was on the website.
Happened three times in one very short QB browsing session, which is why the sessions have been short due to having to close all down and run scans.

labtechkty 07-30-2012 12:13 PM

Same happened to me as well this pm..I was looking at this entry-•large lap top pieced -- by wolph33- when it occurred...connected to the site???
