I have reported spam messages several times - are the mods really backed up on responding to them? They are not obvious spam, but are inserting spam links into quotes, using white font to make it less obvious, etc.

I had a long post written out, but I decided it was too "political" and my tin foil hat was on too tight. Short form: Internet looks free but the cost we pay is our personal information being traded and hopefully exploited.

The best thing we can do when we see spam is report it, and then go about our business.

Well the best thing is to make sure you have various browser protections and virus scanners on, updated and active.

I'd be happy to volunteer as a mod for spam only, I mod on a couple of other forums, where I can zap spam as soon as I see it. Frustrating when I can't do anything, I do report it.

It seems like we are moderated less in the open lately. I understand the moderators are volunteers and I am not being critical at all. Must be a lot going on behind the scenes.

i don't understand the "issue" here.
the moderators and i jump on every spam report we get.
when a post is reported we investigate.
not all reported posts need to be removed.

also ... sorry to overstate the obvious ... users have some responsibility for learning what to avoid or ignore.

Well, I just re-reported another spam post, in the Recipes section. I would really like to know if it doesn't get deleted, why. Poster is an obvious spammer and is very clever at disguising the links with white text, etc.

if you reported it using the correct method a moderator will catch it and fix it.
