Fortunately, I had finished the mystery clues. Changed the presser foot and thread, got my borealis trees out to finish FMQ the center so I could bind it. Started. The needle broke. Rethreaded. Changed the needle.. That needle also broke. Rethreaded and changed to a normal foot. Checked this time with the hand wheel. The needle was going to hit the foot. Looks like the needle bar is bent. It is not worth fixing (machine is 10 years old and cost $99).

Took everything I could salvage out of the accessories box and ordered a Brother CS6000i. It will be here Friday.

So, I am cruising along with Clues 1 & 2. Then she hits us with these Chevrons and "Bonus" unit.... SMH!!! I can't even get my head around it!
I have procrastinated since Friday...and will be cutting these a completely different way. A bit of waste but at least I might have my sanity.
I hate, hate drawing lines...the two lines, and moving the stitch line...I will go mad I tell you!!! LOL!!! LOL!!!
    Wish me luck!
    Onward...
Or you can PM me your most helpful hints...

Wow, Carol, your hunter's star quilt is looking beautiful! And I also think your tans will be fine.
I didn't like the idea of the skinny seam allowances, so I am using the Simple Folded Corners ruler. I don't know yet how I'm going to do the half-square triangles. I might do paper piecing using the Triangulations CD. Or I might use Bonnie's Essential Triangle Tool. Either way, I probably won't be ready for clue 4 on Friday.
Here's a smattering of my half chevrons.

Here's what I've done so far. I decided I need to make the fabrics I have work. Since I used a lot of the orange fabrics for On Ringo, I decided I wasn't going to buy more fabric. I picked the fabrics from my stash, and am pleased with the colors so far. I am trading the orange for hot pinks to soft pinks which will probably be using for clue #4. Hope it works.

As I went to do Clue #3, I couldn't find my Bonus Buddy ruler, so I made my own. It's actually 3/8"placement, so I put a piece of tape on my Folded Corner Clipper ruler 3/8" from the edge.... It worked! I had perfect little 2" HST's. I was amazed.

Just thought I'd share this in case there are others like me. I am piecing on an old machine that doesn't have a straight stitch needle plate so many of the points on my clue #3 were being chewed up whether I chain pieced or not. Finally, it dawned on me that I didn't have to feed the pieces in point first. I know! Started feeding the pieces in from the long side of the rectangle and problem solved. Pretty obvious, but it felt like such a discovery for me!

Carol, your Hunter's Star will be an inspiration to us all. I also like your tan neutrals.

Sync and Krisb, sorry for your troubles!

ScubaK, I hate drawing lines, too. I guess you decided not to buy the Simple Folded Corners ruler? That eliminates the need for lines.

AmyB, there was peer pressure to buy fabric? But you'll be happier with more 'neutrals', and that's what's most important. They are some great oranges.

Girlfriend, congratulations on your success with clue 3! Pretty units!

Leslie, your half chevrons are looking great.

I have a clear day ahead of me for sewing today. The burning questions -- will we use the orange in the next clue, and what will we do with it?

    those are wonderful Angelina ✨
I have about 20 left to do I think, good sewing day here.
I was wondering..if this is half of the same clue, what interesting patterns we might get if we switched the neutral and green?

Nearly done with Clue 3 (not counting pressing & trimming). If all goes well I will be ready for Friday's clue.
