LOL I say that b/c that is almost the exact same thing I said for my first BH mystery. The pieces are small and the seam allowance many. That yardage does not include the backing.

I am going to use gold instead of orange but the rest of my colors will be like Bonnie’s. What color of thread are you using. I usually use beige but thinking of using grey this time?

Here is one thing I keep in mind, If you have a quilt made up of 1.5" squares (1" finished) you have 2.25 sq inches of fabric for every 1 sq inch you see, so there is more fabric in the seam allowance then the front side.

I was going to stick with Bonnie's colors - however I'm not warming up to them much. The odd part is it's the way the neutrals look with them that does not appeal to me. it's good that we have two more weeks before the first clue!

I keep wondering about the oranges. The large amount, the fact that Bonnie gave a two-chip color range for them but for nothing else, plus that cryptic remark I quoted earlier -- it makes me suspect there might be something special going on with them . . . like string blocks? For some reason, I'm thinking of the red as the anchor color in the quilt.

Lisa I think you are on the right track the last several quilts have not had string piecing.

Cathy I never go w/ Bonnie's colors, I usually don't like them, and I have no intention of putting all the time, energy and money into 1 of 10,000 of the same quilts. I really don't like this years colors together at all, but I'm not much into crayon brights.

Oh really? Strings? I hope you are wrong. Don't you think if it were strings she would have mentioned for those who are only using 1 fabric per color? I am still undecided about doing the mystery but if I do I might switch up colors - I just bought some nice purple and I'm thinking of orange for my neutral, purple, yellow, lime green, and black... worried it might look too Halloween-y. Still plenty of time to decide, change my mind, and decide again.

It's the remark Bonnie made when mentioning using 1 fabric per color that got me wondering. I'm not allowed to quote the remark here, but it's in the introduction just before the pictures of the paint chips. Normally she says it's fine to use just 1 color and leaves it at that, but this time she followed up with some rather mysterious comments. As I recall, there was also an issue with 1 fabric per color in En Provence, because of the neutral 4-patches. I can't remember when Bonnie suggested people bring in another neutral in that mystery -- if it was in the intro or when clue #1 came out. I know she likes to avoid giving anything away for as long as possible.

I hope there are no strings. The blue strings was when Orca Bay became a UFO for me. I think if she does strings again, I will just cut the piece from one fabric. I know it takes away some, but it should save my sanity.

Seems like she would offer that option if she’s using orange strings. Either string pieces or one fabric for those not doing scrappy.
