I'm doing the owls too. Not as urgent. I'll use the individual owls for different projects along the way. I think the fish I'm going to end up making to send to my boyfriend's nephew in Denmark because it's bright and happy. It'll be couch size though, because they sleep with duvets in Denmark.

The owls I thought about for my favorite uncle. I've thought several times that I should make him a quilt, or at least a throw blanket. He's the only man in my family who would truly appreciate the effort involved because he used to quilt himself when he was younger.

Part of me says I should make my mother a quilt of some kind, since my sewing seems to be the only thing we have to talk about since Gramma died, but I'm just not sure what pattern/block I'd like to make for her. When she used to quilt, she did what I call cheat quilting. She did a pieced top, tied it off, and because she didn't like to deal with the way batting behaves, she'd get one of those blankets that's like the old style electric blankets, but without the electric, and use it for the batting. They always feel weird to me. I have one she made for my dad's mom that I was given to me when they put Grandma in the nursing home, but I doubt I'll ever use it because of that blanket batting. Hers could definitely be a stash buster quilt though, since there's no theme in her efficiency apartment. The last quilt I know of her making, she got pieces of clothing and baby blankets, things that would mean something to my niece, and cut hexagons out of it and pieced a row of each fabric. So, I know she wouldn't mind one of that type herself.

DustysMama: The quilt you got with the blanket for batting... If you really like the top, you could take it apart and re-sandwich it with "real" batting, since it's tied...

No fabric purchases for me in June. I bought some thread while it was on sale and shouldn't have to buy any of that again for a VERY long time. I accepted gift fabric from a friend though.

accepting gifts does not violate the moratorium. taking it further, i could buy some for you and you could buy some for me. perfectly legal.

Back from a week long trip to Colorado and playing in cemeteries putting up headstones! But while I was there, I did drag one foot off the wagon and bought some 1/2 yds pieces of various reds so that I can begin the Kansas City newspaper quilt called Rubies, Diamonds, Garnets etc....and I need several different reds which I did not have any of...Strange, since red is my favorite color. Nice to be home but taking me a while to catchup on QB messages.

Off tomorrow to get a yard of Marvel Comics fabric..One of my grandsons has requested it for his backpack for next year- hoping to have enough to make an insulated lunch bag to match, since he has to carry lunch at his school...Then right back on the wagon I go...Been trying to focus on UFO's lately...This has been using stash!!

I made the trip to the LQS. Didn't get a belt because I can't get the old one off to use as a measurement. Picked up my pattern - they are 30% off this week. Yeah! Bought a yard of black Kona to start a quilt, then brought home 1 1/2 yards of pink with ice cream cones and popsicles from the clearance room. It didn't go in my stash - I arrived home about 4:00, my oldest daughter arrived at 5:10 and bought it from me to make sundresses for her DGDs, my DGGDs. The LQS closes at 5:00 so she appreciates my picking up sale fabric I know she'd like. I got to pet it - it was a silky one, but don't have to store it. Works for me!

BTW, special fabrics like the reds and comic ones are allowed as long as they are used soon - not stored. Just my opinion. It's the stash building I am trying to curtail.

it's nice we can each make the rules that work best for us! believe it or not, i go through my e-mails and chuck out the ones that are from fabric stores. i think how bad the economy is, but i can't solely be responsible for keeping all those businesses afloat. some times i feel the weight of the burden to do just that. i have a full stash. there will be new designs. and whether i buy fabric now, or not, there will still be fabric 10 yrs from now..... and it will all be yucky polyester made to look like cotton. and we will still quilt.
