I've been good all month. Even went to the quilt store that selling out and only bought a ruler. I can feel my resolve wavering, however, as we approach the dates for the AQS show in Grand Rapids... Already have my hotel reservation for next week. Can't wait!
I went to the LQS today to get some FQs for the birthday swap and wouldn't you know it....they had a sale on sale fabric. I mean seriously, that's like smacking a diabetic in the face with an ice-cream cone. There was no way not to shop. No way, I tell ya.
I have been good and no buying of fabric but being good is no excuse...just have been too busy with other things. I do plan to try and be good as the months go by though and only work on things I have fabric for which means all my partially begun ufo's. Sigh! But when I look through all my stash..I really am grateful that I can sew for months on end without 'having' to buy anything.
Martina: A sale on a sale? Too cruel, womenkind can only resist so much. Right now there is a sale going on at Fabric Shack for $3.98 to 4.98 per yard that has my name all over it. Sandy: You've been good for a very long time, how many months has it been now? I'm one of the More Fabric than Life Expectancy group, but I'm sewing as fast as I can. Been good so far this month, if they would just declare a Moratorium on sales......
I haven't bought fabric since June and that was a yard of the "Iowa Shop Hop" fabric....may be in serious withdrawal pretty soon......
Sandy, any reason (or excuse) will work here. Hope you get to your UFOs soon.
Emma, if it has your name on it, then what's a girl to do, right? Oksewglad, I understand that feeling of anticipation (sometimes for good and sometime to break the rules). |
MadQuilter ...........a reminder , it's okay to have a stock pile, as winter can brutal and who knows we might get snowed in .......one must be prepared. And yes, yes, the quilt show in Grand Rapids.........I wish the venders for coming and I pledge to do my part to support you. OK I have failed ....this moratorium.........I do feel ashamed
Emma, I haven't been on the wagon as long as it sounds. I bought a kit from CT in early July. I have never made a flannel quilt so wanted to try one and it was the right price. Not sure when I will get to it, though. Knowing me though...if I do get started on something all of you darn well, that I won't have what I need and will have to go buy it. Isn't that how it works. Congrats to everyone who is hanging in there and for those of you who find good bargains...like someone else said on here..."What's a gal to do?" :-)

I really admire our group, now we are using climate change to justify our purchases.

I'm sure that purchasing fabric is eco friendly... After last winter my house can use all the insulation I can get!

The reason you need excuses to buy or not to buy is because you have stashes. I have ZERO "stash". My two closets full, two bookshelves full, and 14 drawers full of fabric are a "Collection". Collections don't have to be used, they can be, but they also need to be added to periodically to stay fresh and interesting. No excuses needed!

Oh this is home sweet home! When I get the urge to buy or cry I come here and I don't buy and I don't cry I laugh. You are a funny group that mix and mingle here, oh ..I'm here too. What a good deal for me!
I've been going through patterns, now that's moratorium I really ought to be a member of immediately. The individual patterns start at $10 and I have ......a lot. Quilting magazines are another issue (ha). I've stopped taking all but one. I have ....many. And I've also been getting the MSQC Block. Today I've been looking at Accuquilt Dies I have quite a few of those too. But I don't have any of the embroidery software that is available for a lot of the dies (hummm). And get this (what am I thinking) I just printed off an itinerary for a tour with Bonnie Hunter to Tuscany in May 2015. I also inquired about the payment plan, gave them my email address. Is there a need to spend or a need to craft or a need to accumulate or just a need? Maybe it's just a need to buy fabric, it's like trying to replace chocolate...can't be done. |

The man went to visit family for his mother's birthday and brought me back some interesting things. The fabric shop in the town near his brother & sister in law's house was apparently getting rid of the little cardboard things with samples of each fabric in a group, which you then use to pick what you'd like to order. I ended up with several of these, which will likely end up as materials for runners or mug rugs. I think my favorite one is the Dr. Seuss fabric! I didn't buy it. It appeared at my house without request or invitation, so it doesn't count!
I am going to Helen, GA this weekend with friends to stay in a cabin. I have no idea how "in town" the cabin is, but Southern Comfort Quilts is on Main Street. If we leave the cabin, I may have to duck in and check it out! With new stresses at work, and the possibility being revealed to me yesterday that I may not only be changing positions at work, but also moving to a different division of the company, this weekend couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I hope to get back in my sewing room next week and do something besides repairing holes in my son's work pants. I'm going to have to have something to even out the stress if this move comes through! |
Dustys: I love it when the significant other supports addictions! Yep, guilt free. Am I the only one that's noticed how similar guilt and quilt are? Congrats on the career move. I always felt that it was better to be stressed and/or challenged at work than to die of boredom. Rhonda, OK you are both bad, but I better be nice since I think there is a spectacular fall off the wagon in my near future.
I had a lovely time at the AQS Show! Lots of wonderful quilts to look at. As a souvenir of Grand Rapids, I got a FQ bundle of neutral batiks. I don't think souvenirs count. My biggest challenge so far this year is coming next week, however. 50% off at my LQS. They are changing ownership and trying to get the inventory down. I'll report back next week...
Well as foreseen I fell off the wagon but not where I thought I would. Garage sale. Eight yards of high quality LQ fabric for $3 per yard. More than I usually pay at garage sales but this had been purchased as a lot from a LQ that was going out of business, still on the bolt. What's a quilter to do? Worst of it is those sales are still calling my name.
Wow Emma...$3/yd! Such a great deal. The way I see this moratorium thing is that we aren't supposed to just go out and buy random fabrics for who knows what...but when good deals come along, we are foolish if we don't take advantage. My quilter friend in another state said she bought bolts of fabric at $5/yd the other day and felt she really got some good deals, if only to use fabric for backing..with prices being what they are now. It really warms my heart when I hear of a quilter here or somewhere else..getting a steal of a deal on good fabric. So I say...way to go and just keep sewing everyone...if you die with fabric..so what...It will go to someone else who's good fortune will be to find a steal at an estate auction! :-)
I'm with Paper P, fabric souvenirs purchased from Fields Fabric vender at the Grand Rapids AQS show.........and tools (scissors) don't count correct? And sparkles are popular with venders..........
Paper Princess: I agree souvenirs don't count and good neutral batiks are hard to find, so how could you pass that by. Sandy: So true, when I kick off I hope to make any number of quilters deliriously happy, just pass that good fabric karma right along. Calla, I reread your post three times, somewhere in there I think I read another mea culpa. Seems to be another case of deja vu all over again, wasn't there another confession that was very similar? I'm kind of at the place where I wonder what an out and out breaking of the moratorium would be. Going into a LQ and paying full price for 50 yards of fabric without any purpose at all in mind and with malice of forethought?
OK, now what all can I categorize as a souvenir? You gals are the best!
:D :D Oh good! Now I can call the "Row by Row" Experience buys "souvenirs" as they were all (but one) bought while traveling!! :D :D :D Gotta love this group! This leaves me smiling.
Well--today i bought myself a birthday present. That can't count, can it? Other than that, nothing has been purchased except finishing pieces for Linus quilts.
This is the fabric which caused me to fall. It has ore boats; it has the aerial bridge; it has split rock lighthouse. How could i possibly resist? http://www.hingeleyroadquilting.com/...usivebali.aspx |
What great MM fabric.

We have a trip planned to Reno. Now I can look at it as a souvenir hunt.

I went through my stash last night and realized that I am really low on browns. Only a few FQs left. I think I need to go buy some brown fabric. NEED has not been in my fabric-shopping vocabulary for a long time.
I found fabrics in my stash to finish these three quilts...Didn't make a dent:shock::D:D:D:D

I said that I would report back (confess) if I visited the quilt shop that was selling out. Went this afternoon. I only bought 5 yards (half off), and I'm sending 2 to my sister. I also bought 2 books at 70% off. Not perfect, but it could have been a whole lot worse!
Paper Princess: You did do fine. When books are on a really good sale, I think they are as hard as fabric to resist. Look at it this way, you helped that proprietor to liquidate her stock. Just doing your civic duty. Wish I had the strength to delete my e-mails before I read them; sales, sales everywhere. I keep hoping someone will buy the fabric I'm especially drawn to.
Emma Emma you are such a positive person, "help a proprietor " and "civic duty" I gotta love it.......my Auntie Rae was too. One day I will tell what my nephew her grandson said about her......hee hee. That's ok Paper today is another day and now I have a week under my belt. Calla/Sue

A full year!! I've made it a full year with almost no purchases!! I finished buying two BOMs this year and bought some fabric with a fair prize but I only got what the gift cert covered. I did buy 5 spools of Aurifil but only because the local fabric pusher had it on sale.
I'm going to go on a quilt retreat close to one of my favorite stores though. I'm also going to move to a 2 bedroom apt in the same building this month so there is that to consider too. Fabric gets real heavy, real fast. |
Congrats Scissor Queen! Hopefully you sewed from your stash...can you share?
