My first day here and I'm in. I have a bad habit of buying just because: it feels nice, it's pretty, I will use it someday and it is on sale and and and on and on my excuses go.

I am in again this year. I admit I bought a few yards of special material last year. But really did not buy muc ill till the Monday before Thanksgiving really. I did buy couple big spools white thread. And found a package of big needles for tying. Nor sure better than had. I really not sure how many yards of material I bought in Nov but probably 30 yds or so.
Well I totally blew my plans (and saved money) today.
I went to Joann's looking for some rick rack and other trims for the doll quilt swap I am in. Made the mistake of going to the fabrics to see what was new. Cost me over $60 to get out of there. Than I stopped at Colorado Fabrics (formerly Denver Fabrics), to check and see if they had any rick rack and other trims in grey, they had a couple but I also found several remnant pieces that are priced by the pound. These will be use for making scarves with left overs going into my "crazy quilt" boxes. |
Alright I may have blown it. I bought 1 yrd of blender white for a quilt in my round robin. I am using scrap colors and white as the tie in.. I could not believe with all my fabric I had zero white. WHAT? worse yet went there for a yard of kona black. nope they had all other companys Hoffman, Kauffman, moda.. no KONA. argh. half through a project now to order it on line. paying 5.00 shipping for a yard of 5.99 fabric kills me.. makes you wanna.. just get a bit of this lol and a bit of that to well justify the shipping. DO YOU HAVE A YARD TO SELL???
I also, gulp bought 3/4 yrd scrap of red blender for 5.00 as I am out of a red in my stash and that is the next round. not enough scraps to fill in the red part or would have used them honest. I did not look at that adorable bunny fabric hugging daffodils nor did I see the pansy fabric or that.. nope didn't look all. This is hard and its only January! but if you saw my scraps I posted a week ago you would understand the need. And to me I only keep 10" or bigger, smaller goes in the donation bag to Jaba (she sells scraps) or to friends who say hey lady send them here! and how do we grow so many f4's? like turn your back for 10 minutes and there are.. MORE. ahhhh. so using those up after I finish my 8 plus UFO's. yikes. embarrassing to post that btw. that is way too many start but not finish projects. how lame :( upside I will finish them. They are next years holiday gifts :) |

I backed 4 baby quilts from my stash. The tops were done by someone else last year so I needed to sandwich and then I either quilted and brought the back to the front or did a pillowcase turn and then quilted. 2 more to finish before I allow myself to bring more home from the Bundles of Love organization.

Brat, you didn't blow it if you needed the fabric and will use in a timely fashion. Blowing it is buying undesignated fabric and stashing it like what would happen if I were to buy the CT Red fabric.
Retiredteacher, those blankets are sweet! What a good accomplishment for this early in the year!
Brat, it's okay to buy as long as you have a plan for it that will happen soon. |
i have not been a part of this group before would love to join for the support. I self imposed a moratorium last year and did pretty well. As least I used more than I bought! That was a start!!! Will join the group and use the support to carry on this year. Look forward to lots of pictures of beautiful projects!!
Ok I am officially in ! Last year I bought more fabric than I have ever bought in any one or maybe even 5 year span. But.....I did go to Bali... and could not leave without consuming every ounce of baggage allotment with batiks. I think mentally that's all it took and the seal on my wallet was broken.... and I continued to binge..in smaller amounts.
I have to keep telling myself ...don't worry next year they will still sell fabric ..and you will find them just as irresistable. |
Elisabrat, I don't think it counts. Blenders and neutrals are ALWAYS needed, and particularly if you need them for an ongoing project. Plus you at least sound like you had some twinges over this purchase. lol
Great job on those quilts retiredteacher. |
This should be a piece of cake for me this year. #1, I don't have any place to put new fabric and #2, I don't really have money for fabric anyway. As a matter of fact, after tax season I'm going to sort thru what I do have and get rid of the fabrics I'm not likely to ever use.
Well, I'm in again this year. I fell off the wagon early in 2013 with a THUD!!!! (Working at my LQS part time certainly doesn't help!) LOL. We are 11 days in and I bought a pattern today -- but NO fabric!! I hope you all will keep me on track this year!
Linda in Missouri |
Well, my foot fell off the wagon.
I went four times to our shop this week for various reasons, to sign up for a retreat, to sign up for a class, to help a friend pick out some fabrics for needlework pillows, to help another friend pick out border fabric for a UFO, and lastly to attend the Border Creek Mystery Quilt meeting. There was a huge sale at the shop and I found two lone fat quarters for a quilt I am collecting fabric for. The were the only ones left of the style (reminiscent of old sheets and pillowcases) and they were 70% off! So I spent $2 plus change. I couldn't leave them there, although the quilt probably won't be started till 2015. |
Viv. the fact that you went into the land of temptation 4 times and you came away with only 2 FQs to go with a UFO - my hat's off to you.
January purchase and it's only the 12th. 2 yards of a black blender for my batik quilt. The batik quilt is high on the list so I grabbed the sashing while I was at JoAnn's with my daughter. It's 50 miles away so it's grab when you can. At half price, I think I showed restraint getting only what I needed.
Still no purchases, but I have to go to a LQS first! Don't do online...that would be a disaster...good thing I'm a touchy feely type of buyer.
I have been very good. I think I'm sick. It could be terminal. How long can you go without fabric before it kills you? Food is two days, water is two weeks, how long for fabric? I went to lqs with dh to pick up thimble dots and didn't buy even thread, which, if i had to, i could have woven into fabric. My case is being presented at the medical school of fiber and weave, sometime next month. Drs from all over the world! Hope they an save me! I'm all torn up!
I'm in. Too many projects waiting to be started. I'm addicted to beautiful fabric. Time to get those projects started and finished.
I just went through about 1/3 of my quilt fabric and pieces, reorganizes and will try hard not to buy more fabric. I want to do more pictorial quilts and found fabric I had forgotten my purchasing them. So no excuses. The only problem will be to find the fabric in my reorganization.

I finished 2 more baby quilts from donated tops. I used backing from my stash.
I have a teacher 25% off coupon for the weekend and need to look if any fleece is on sale to match with some remnants and bigger pieces that were donated. If any fleece is on sale though, I need to stay away from the remnant bin at Joann's because I don't want to start any new fleece blankets because I have enough to finish for an October event! Last night at guild we stated New year's resolutions for roll call. I might have mentioned my fabric moratorium and fessing up to how many yards I had purchased last year. As if on cue, a friend strolls over with a huge bag of scraps--mostly sips of this and that--cut off triangles and the like and told me I should be set for a while.:D :D :DLittle later--another friend also had a sack full. Another round of :D:D:D! They know me too well and they all expect to see some mini's out of their scrap bags!!! Which of course I will make.
I'm being very good this year. Two weeks in and I've only spent $15 on trim and buttons - no fabric! Turns out to be a good thing since we had a pipe burst, replaced the windshield on my car, and are now replacing the busted shower faucet (a little bit of a rough month, yes?)
@oksewglad, congrats on all the loot! |
I'm a bit late, But I'd like to join,
My name is Teresa and I'm a....an....a.....fabricholic. There first step is done! I've done quite well this year so far. I've only purchased 2 small pieces of fabric needed to complete my round on a round robin. I've reorgnized my new found sewing room and looked through all of that beautiful fabric and the many, many UFO's. I've sworn to not start anything new until my Ufo's are done. Ugh, that may take me until mid 2015. I also swear to only purchase fabric "needed" to finish these projects up. Wish me luck! |
You are in good company, Teresa. I realized that I don't have enough backing for the next project (it is 90" square). Since it is for a gift, I asked the new owner to help me pick backing fabric. Yes, I KNOW that backing doesn't count but I had really hoped to stay out of the fabric store for a bit longer.
Teresa, I am with you on this one for sure this year. I told hubby when package arrived today from CT that this was it! No More! He just laughed (imagine that) and said "I've heard that before!" But really folks, I have enough projects and fabric (including tons of scraps) that I think I can sew for 5 years and never run out of something to do. Help me be strong!
Okay, I am in. I am in the process of creating a quilt using only the fabric I have in the stash. I found new techniques to make jelly rolls work (after I washed them and they shrank to 2 1/4" and the pattern called for 2 1/2") with the Lone Star and the blocks that go with it. I went to my stash and found enough leftover backings to make the backing work. It is looking good and then, and then, no fabric in my stash would work for the borders soooooo, I had to buy 3 yards of fabric for the borders (but hey they are perfect!) Whew...I think that was legal. Will post picture when done, am hand quilting/machine quilting combination. I promise I will not buy any more material this year unless....it is an emergency ;-)
Ok I'm. in. Im determined to only have as much stuff as I have room for. I've been selling or donating books and patterns and cutting and sewing scraps. I figure if I don't buy more fabric then I can make that happen much faster. After all its much faster to buy 10 yards of fabric than to sew it.
We will see how long my resolve lasts. I'm going to my class at the LQS in a few minutes. Their sale table is like a magnet for me! Due to crummy weather, head cold and lots of Football, I've managed to make 3 tops so far this year, all from stash. Downside is, ran out of fabric in top #1 for matching border. Came up with something, but I think my original design would have been better. Top #3, won't have enough for binding in my color choice, again ran out of fabric. I guess I'll just have to plan my future designs better and make sure I have enough fabric before I start.
Paper Princess, I'm running into the same thing. I think that's why my UFOs are UFOs!! LOL So maybe the UFOs will be tummy time size or lap quilts. That's okay. I just want them done.
I just quilted my first LA quilt on friend's machine. Woo hoo! Had planned it as a French door cover to help insulate for dh. Yes, i know how to measure. No, I did not walk across the room and hold it up to see if it fit. This is the quilt dh wanted to keep so now, here it is, all his and too small for the doorway. BUT UFO #1 is finished, except for binding. Will take picture this afternoon. No new fabric purchased.....
Looking forward to seeing the picture of French door (too small) quilt, Nancia. Lucky you to practice on a friend's LA. Did it take a long time? Kudo's for sharing that you finished a UFO!
Had a UFO night with "the girls" I finally finished the Christmas table runner top for my cousin (long story, but was impossible for me to finish for this past Holiday) It turned out fab, hope to quilt it out tomorrow. Also got my charm pack disappearing 4 patch blocks sewn to the first phase. All in all a very fruitful evening with no purchasing required!
I went to Joann's yesterday to shop the 25% off sale for the Go dies, of course they had none I wanted, only bought a few things, NO FABRIC!!
I didn't even LOOK at it!! I'm so happy I didn't. |
I to went to JoAnn's and came out without a single piece of fabric. Least you think I am too nobel, I was willing but the colors I wanted were just not there or I had something in my stash I liked better. Maybe this is the beginning of a little will power. Hate to make a comment like that, seems it just challenges the Fabric Gods to tempt me.
