I did well this week too, went to my class at the LQS, got a ruler off the 1/2 price table, but no fabric!!! I might actually get thru the first month this year.
|
I bought fleece yesterday to finish some fleece blankets for a charity event. I did look at the fleece remnant pile and only took a white one to sew on a piece of fleece that is too small for the 1 1/2 yard blanket.
I saved an extra 25% on my purchases yesterday with my extra teacher coupon. Unfortunately, I didn't hit the 50 dollar mark for the extra 30% for this week. Oh, well. At least this purchase doesn't count because it was to finish projects. :) Connie |
Well, I only made it 17 days into the year before LQS had a fantastic sale!! I did buy because I loved the fabric, BUT, unlike last year when I fell off the wagon, I 'm climbing aboard again and vowing to do better. Before this purchase, I found backing fabric for a large quilt in my stash. It was such a good feeling!! I'll need your support this year!

I find having put this as a frame of mind when I am not looking at lol the emails that come to me from various fabric sites that I see something pretty BUT I say.. oh heck like you need more fabric without a purpose. use up a good amount of what you have THEN shop there will always be fabrics newer ones, prettier ones than the last. I have so many one yard of this and half a yard of that things.. no purpose. That is sad I also have those darned ufo's so nope not buying a thing especially that adorable bunny holding daffodils I saw.. nope not one. (HELP intervention get the ropes tie me in, hide my credit card!).. lol seriously not shopping. I am overwhelmed with ufo's first. like a weight almost .. I get nervous with ... 'stuff'? so have to finish up and clear out so I can feel .. like I cleaned again. not ocd mind you at all but things seem to bug me. also we live in a tiny apartment and no room to stock pile things at all. probably a good thing right?
|
I had a little slip up, but forgivable i think. I had to have pins for ornaments I'm making so went to ja's . No coupons, just going to buy pins! Found a piece of fleece, half off remnant price, and end of bolt, $1.75. It's captain America and i have a little friend who is NUTS about C.A. So had to do it! I'm going to make it a snugly pillow case, today, and mail it out tomorrow ! Absolutely NO quilting fabric was purchased in this trip, yay! But i also bought a remnant of a mini dot pink, white for doll dresses. I went beyond what i planned, but I was true to the quilting part of the moratorium.

Sandyz-- using the la was a blast! I did a large meander, so it was very quick, or I was enjoying it so much the time flew! For me, the most time consuming was advancing the quilt. I took a class at my lqs so i can use their machine at an hourly rate, and it translated well to my friend's machine. She has just acquired a computerized machine so while she played with that i used her old machine. How cool is that?!! I didn't do a great job, but for a first attempt i am pleased! I will now need to make another quilt for the French doors, or else make a valance for the quilt I've made. Have an idea for some blocks that are partially done and might work. That would be another UFO biting the dust, and no new fabric. Woo hoo!
Brat-- I'm proud of you! You used good restraint! I found that if i cancelled my subscription to the fabric sites i was less tempted to buy from them. I know how to get to connecting threads without them teasing me with yummy goodies ! Lol, as I have proven often enough! 8-/ ,lol! I did buy some of the red and the blue in precuts and will be making the five and dime quilt soon, too. Then they will be gone and i will have another quilt to play la with! I have picked out fabrics and then just left the site, reminding myself there is no need to buy more! But it's hard! I'm proud of all of us who are doing it! And if you fall off the wagon, get back in! The world won't end, you won't face a firing squad, and you can start over from that point. Don't beat yourself up, we're addicts, after all. |
Brat, I have the same issues with my UFOs - the pile is so huge that I feel overwhelmed. I guess I have to give my inner pig-dog (a German expression) a swift kick in the hindquarters and just pick one to finish.
nancia, I think we are all expecting to see the finished Captain America piece. So far zero new fabric for me this year. Sounds like an addict speaking "Hi, my name is Martina, and I have not bought any fabric in 19 days" lol |

Let's see if these pics came out alright. I would have been fine if i had made it 4 x4.
|
How wonderfully colorful, but then we knew it would be! A beautiful quilt and the FMQ looks good.
I pulled Judy's train 3 out of storage today so I can see where I was with it. Sewing with red roses will be fun with Valentine's Day coming. It doesn't need any more fabric, but I will stay out the LQS as red roses on a black ground is probably my second weakness after batiks. |
Thanks, Judy. I actually have a very quiet color UFO, and that's probably why it's a UFO. May become a dog bed or a charity quilt, but will be a perfect practice quilt for the la.
right now I'm making ornaments out of some squares i had for a dahlia pillow. Does that count as another UFO finished? Right now if it leaves the quilt room it counts! |
Oh Nancia, I love your attempt at meandering. It looks great and I love the colors of the quilt even more. What a great feeling to say,"The quilt has left the building" ...or in your case...the sewing room. LOL!
|
yes it is, phew another one bites the dust! and another one falls and another one... oh darn that is happening for all the others.. me its still a .. pile. I did however do something oh so productive last night! I went to bed, couldn't sleep so I got up and started organizing my two fabric shelves by color. OMG I have so many blues! and pinks! and three yellows lol (not a color that says buy me?) and I think I can finish at least a couple quilts with the creams I have and yippee! now to finish that last shelf.. I was inspired by Jaba's quilt room. Its like a store! all her bolts of fabric color coordinated, her yardage folded neatly on cardboard holders standing up like books .. oh yeah I wanted that. Her hubby built me my two shelf bookcase so I could do that and she even gave me the cardboard. MONTHS ago. now I am finally going to do myself proud. TADA and not a piece of fabric was purchased in the making of this piece of art. I don't know about you but I am a grab it when testing fabrics then stuff it back.. yup, fling it back to the shelf and after I get going on a new project the neatly organized fabric becomes a hodge podge. This year, I will not allow this to happen. (cross your fingers with me please).
|
Brat , instead of being overwhelmed just grab one, blindly, and that's the only one that counts! Let the others fade into the background. We can all finish one! Of course, I'm not finished since I have to decide, add borders and Qayg, or make a separate valance? Hmmmm... Big storm on it's way so i need to decide and DO it! Dogs are already curled up tight against me, and old cat on the other side. Now that they're all comfortable i need to go to the rest room. Like getting a kid into a snowsuit, causes over active bladder.n
|
Brat: Isn't sorting the stash by color an eye opener? Was really confused by the fact I had so few purples until I realized almost all of my quilts have purple, I used them all up. I managed to complete six UFOs last year, just put everything I wasn't working on out of sight. Helped me concentrate on what was in front of me. Of course there are always some people that start really neat quilt alongs that distract me.
Nancia: Didn't know pets cuddling was one of the leading causes of over active bladder. Funny they never mention that in the ads. |
So far I have not bought any material this year. Walmart had material marked down to $1 to $3 a yard and nothing I wanted. Yeah I have looked several places but have not seen anything I want.
I have not gotten anything done. Got the 16 patch blocks laid out to put in the stripes . I have not gotten the stripes ready yet. |

I've made it so far without buying fabric this year! Good thing since I have a custom LAQ project that I'll be paying for in a couple of days. That's at least 3 months of any fabric buying 'budget' on a yearly basis. But, the quilt's special for my niece & nephew.
BTW, I've had NO luck posting photos here for a year or more so I can't share anymore : ( Resizing photos won't work either though I read the instructions & did what was given. Kind of sad. |
100 lashes with a jelly roll strip for me. I went to the LQS - one I've never been to before, last night to join a group to make lap quilts for the local Vet hospital. The owner kept the shop open just for us AND I was hungry. That was just too much for me. I felt the call of the flannel, got it in my sight, wrangled it out of the shelf and wrestled it to the cutting counter. I DO plan to ONLY use this for the Vet project and I DID commit to this project. Planning to make rag quilts. But still..........
|
Nancia, good cause, probably perfectly suited for the project. I hold you totally blameless.

Still haven't bound the quilt, but will very soon. I love the peacefulness of hand sewing the back. Dh has spoken up and wants the quilt for himself. No door cover. If it keeps him warm and happy then it works for me! I bought a wall mounted quilt " rack" from Jaba, that her husband made, and will hang that over the heat. Then the quilt will be all toasty warm when dh wants it. It sounds like a good idea to me! I'll take pics when i get it hung on the wall! I'm so excited!

What fun to meet up you two!
Just finished 2 UFO's and made a wall hanging for school fundraiser. Pieced the backing (from stash) for one table runner which made it reversible. Wall hanging from the stash except for 16 2" squares which were "gifted to me. One yard out, 0 yards in! |

Teresa and Martina, How lucky that you two will get to meet. Please snap a pic (or have the waitress snap one) and share with us. That is unless you meet in a quilt shop and then have the sales clerk snap one!
|
Martina, if the flannel will be used soon and it's for a good cause, you deserve kudos, not lashes. If it goes in your stash, well then, that's a different story.
How fun to meet another moratorium member! |
ok good news! I have a quilt for quilters quilt to make and she is ok with me using my UFO Christmas blocks but wants lots of white in it so I will have to buy some yardage of white to fill in as sashing and borders. should make it a pretty white Christmas type quilt and get two sets of ufo's out of the pile in the process. I swore only would use the UFO's and she is good to go with this. Phew! so will post pics of my starting blocks tomorrow so all can see what I am starting with and where I end up. yahoo!
|
Linda, you are so good about jumping in on so many projects and seeing them through, not to mention having a wonderful attitude about each one all the time. I admire you so much. Pics please when you get started on the Q for Q. :-)
|
You all can just send those never gonna use fabric pieces to me lol. I can't go on a fabric moratorium cuz I'm still building a stash.
Good do luck ladies in not shopping for fabric. |
Well Martina if someone holds a shop open for you it wouldn't be manners if you didn't buy fabric....Have managed to steer my car away from Textile Traders when attending appointments in Midland...have put the Spotlight catalogues straight into the recycling bin and when Op shopping only bought clothes....should go on a clothes moratorium but am getting back into the workforce and all my old work clothes went into a wagga a few years ago. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it....I just realised...clothes = fabric....am I subconciously cheating?
|
I will take this challenge. I just moved last June into a new home and as I was organizing I counted the number of kits I have and they totaled 30. If I am allowed to by the backing fabric, which the rules state are acceptable, I should be able to get through at lease a couple of the projects I have.

Ok, i plead the fifth, the sixth, extenuating and exhorbitant , extraordinary circumstances! Plus I was drugged! Seriously, y'all, i went to an all day affair with Ricky Tim's ( oooo, that sounds so naughty!) and there was no way in this lifetime, or the next three, that I was gonna leave his hand dyed fabric just sitting there! I bought a bundle of five fat q's for the price of one yard normally. It is so beautiful, and for now it is going into my collection of " too special to use" fabrics, which is a subsidiary of my stash, but not really, since it is for having and not for sewing! I admire my self control ! How many Hail Mary s does that require?

I made HSTs from one of my charm packs and some yellow solid. It's asymmetrical (which is hard for me) so I am challenging myself. Can't post it in the other areas as it is not DONE yet. But layout is set - now to sew the rows without getting confused.
Nancia, on February 6-8 I am attending the Ricky Tims seminar in Modesto. He will have his wares for sale there too. Odds are that I might as well capitulate early and accept the fact that "something" will jump in my bag to come home. Besides, I think it is rude to go to an event and not support the vendors. lol |
OK, not to sound stupid, what does HSTs stand for?
|
I love your layout, it looks great.
|
I will soon find out how good my stash is. I am going to participate in the 2014 Mystery Quilt Train Ride. Will I be able to come up with all of the fabrics from my stash? Does dying your own fabric count against you? I have two bolts of white fabric waiting to be dyed along with a verity of dye colors. I bought the bolts of fabric when I was taking the dying class.

half square triangle :) no dumb question same as f4 is a fat quarter and qst is a quarter square triangle (you know the four triangles make one square)..
ok I am so good pat me on the back right now. I was going to buy some valentine fabric here on the board. it was so cute. like soo cute I needed it. But the truth was.. I don't need it I just liked it. Talked myself down from it with the fact Valentine's Day fabric will continue to be produced for years to come.. so its not like there wont be more to find at a later date when I have a project for it in mind. Phew.. saved this time. Barely. it was tough ladies very tough. The quilt in progress.. post it in Pictures for everyone to see. No law here that you have to post only finished projects.. a work in progress is good also it is encouraging hearing all the nice oh that will be so pretty comments it inspires you to work on more and more! it is truly going to be pretty :) Nancia you can put those fabrics right away to use.. make me something! love that fabric you know I could .. drape myself with it like a.. sarong and well be covered in such beautiful fabric no one would notice that I am not quiet up to the same level of gorgeousness.. hey a decoy! yeah make me a decoy! if you got fabric that is anything like what ws shown.. no way no how anyone would expect you to hold out on buying that. It talks to you when you walk by doesn't it.. Nancia.. come to me.. buy me.. buy more of me... |
Elisabrat--who needs valentine fabric when you can make this cute wall hanging from red and white fabrics!
