Thanks for the input from Emma S, Nana-Up-North, Fraew, and Quilter Sue. :o The fabric is loosely woven but the colors are gorgeous. It was a kit that I ordered long, long ago without being able to see the fabric. What I'm thinking is that I'll just call it done as is. My thinking is that the shredding might, just might, be stopped when it has batting and backing added. Still, it's a lot of time and so many projects to do. So I think this one will go to the trash. The fabric isn't absorbent, so no good even for car rags. Dog beds wouldn't hold up, so that's out. Really learned a lesson here. Thanks for helping me decide to do what I thought should be done, but sure do hate to waste!

coopah if the colors in the fabric are gorgeous, what about putting it in a frame, or at least a portion of it.

Lauriejo, that's a good idea, but my walls are covered with art...I think I'll take a photo for a remembrance of a lesson learned and let it go. It's such a shredder that I won't even let it go to dog beds. There are worse things in life...I'll move on to making quilts that will work.

I did it! Finished all of the blocks for my Orca Bay quilt! 102 blocks are finished for the border units and 255 blocks are finished and ready to be pieced together into the main body of the quilt. I've laid them out on the floor and can finally see what I've been working on! Lots of secondary designs are jumping out at me. I really have to be careful to get them all facing the right direction. It's very easy to turn one of the blocks the wrong way. I've decided to QAYG on this one so I'm piecing enough blocks together to get 2'x2' units. I'll quilt each unit with batting only and do the same thing with the borders, then add the backing. It feels so good to have a plan. Maybe I'll done by the end of the month?

Hi 5 Rhonda Lee!

Rhonda: Congrats! The secondary design are why I really like Bonnie's designs. On my Orca the placement of the colors isn't right because the secondary design is hidden, one of the reasons why I lost interest.

Congrats Rhonda - and good choice on the QAYG. Orca Bay is the reason I have a longarm now - quilting it on my domesitc (and I made a small version) just about killed me. All those seams/pieces made it SO heavy.

Congratulations, Rhonda Lee! I haven't tried QAYG yet but I hope to try it this summer when I have more time.

Way to go, Rhonda Lee! You're almost ready for the payoff! I think you're wise to do the QAYG since it is so heavy and so many seams. Keep us posted on your progress. Someday I'll get to mine, ready for the borders and I was wondering how I should quilt it. I wonder if just an overall meander would work, since it is pretty busy already. Have you decided how you are going to quilt yours?

nanna-up-north 04-03-2014 05:12 AM

Rhonda Lee.... the anticipation is building. I'm so anxious to see your masterpiece...... Yeah!!

Well, I delivered the baby quilt yesterday. I posted a picture in the Pictures section. Now, I have to get that lap quilt done and I'll be back to my UFOs. I already have the lap quilt pieced together except for the border so it's not going to take too long once I get the next couple of days out of the way....... this is turning out to be a busy week.
