Jean: Busy and productive. Even if they aren't UFOs, finishes always feed so good.

My quilting skills are good as long as I stitch in the ditch, or outline, a lot of straight stitching and do very simply meandering. I'm not great at fmq, although I have done some. My plan after looking at this extremely busy quilt is a simple outline of the star blocks. I'll do this with just the batting added to the back of 2'x2' units I've been piecing together. They each have 4 star blocks. I'll add the borders and also do a simple outline. Then, when I add the backing I'll stitch straight lines that cross diagonally across the whole quilt. This is one of the secondary patterns that emerges when it's all pieced together. Because it's so busy I think what I'm planning is enough quilting. But if I had a long arm.....
I can honestly say this gem has been a challenge. Those of you who have gone before me I bow to you! |
One more thing! The most important thing I might add. A big THANK YOU to all of you for your encouraging words. It really does help with the motivation. This would still be sitting in pieces in a box if I had not joined this wonderful group. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Good to see everyone working hard.
Rhonda, Orca like most of Bonnie's Mystery quilts takes a real commitment I chose not to start it as I had so many UFOs. Proud you are completing it. I'm working on Hunter's Star and hope to finish the top by the end of the month. I didn't get as far as I'd planned as the retreat last week so I probably won't get much done on UFOs this month. |
This time of year it is such a struggle for me to keep up the quilting pace. So, I haven't had a chance to pop in and see what everyone is doing. Looks like we're all chugging along..... trying to stretch those minutes out so we can get more done. I'm there with you everybody....... little by little...... we'll move that UFO pile to the FINISHED pile..... Yeah!!

Hooray and Halleluia!!! I have all the blocks finally made for my DDIls throw. Trimmed up and mostly assembled into the top! I can hardly believe it! I'm assembling it in blocks instead of rows and, wow, how much easier that is! Rather than wrestling all those long seams. Maybe have this finished by the fall!LOL. Hubby and I have battled the "flu" for two whole weeks--ugh--but seem to be over it now, thank goodness.
Ladies, the quilts you have been posting on here have been awesome! What wonderful progress you have all been making. Keep up the good work. Love each and every one of them! |
I went to a retreat this past week-end and finished three projects, yeah me! The one that I was happiest to have finished is a string quilt that I started 3 or 4 years ago. Very scrappy!

Three projects finished, Karen..... Yeah!! I'd love to see them... especially the string quilt. I love those. But, getting 3 done.... pat yourself on the back. That's truly an accomplishment to be proud of. I often struggle getting one done!

OK. The 'shredder' quilt went the way of all trash, and is really our of sight/out of mind! :-) I finished the comfort blanket (only two layers) for a church friend with a rare disease. Even wind blowing on her arm can cause pain. So I backed the piecing with fleece...soft and no seams. You can see the blanket in my avatar along with my new (19 months old) quilting inspector named Nibbs. I've finished 4 UFOs, so think I'm going to start an entirely new one!

Good for you, coopah. A finish is a finish no matter the method. And, yes..... start a new one. That's what I've been doing...argh!! But, I only have 2 UFOs at this point. Yes, you heard it right.... 2!! and one of them is just a quilt top I bought at an auction....... so I'm iffy at counting that one.
I did get the kitty quilt done for my SIL.... delivered in on Easter Sunday. I posted it in the pictures section. So now, it's time to start collecting the projects to go to the cabin for the summer but I don't know what I want to take...... decisions.... so hard to make at times. |
