2016 UFO Challenge of the Month
 

This is the brand new page for 2016's continuation of our UFO Challenge of the Month. The rules are simple: Supporting and encouraging one another in completing our accumulated UFOs.

You can set a goal for each month, but it's definitely not required.

A "finish" is defined as removing said UFO from your incomplete stack of projects. The way you accomplish this is up to you. You can finish the project, pass it on to someone else to finish, donate it, sell it... You see, we are very flexible. Our goal is to reduce the pile of UFOs.

And yes, you can move your UFO to someone else's pile, lol, it's been done before. We are great enablers, too!

All are welcome to hop on this UFO train; we reach out our hands to help you get on. The train will blow its whistle for each new member and we ring the bell for all the finishes that happen!!

It doesn't matter how you count your UFOs; it's entirely up to you. No UFO Police allowed here!!!

We all love pictures so feel free to share whenever another UFO becomes a Finished project!

Special note: I'm looking forward to this UFO Challenge. Last year was great success, over 300 finished UFOs! Wow. Congratulations to everyone who participated last year. I hope you will join again this year and turn a few more UFOs into completed works. And thank you to SandyinZ4 for giving me the opportunity to hop aboard this train!

Well, here I am again. I hesitate to count, but let's just say I have more than 5 and less than 25 UFOs! I will not accomplish anything in January because I am moving. I will have a room dedicated to sewing in my new digs and in February I will dive in and tackle UFOs. My personal goal is one quilt per month each year. It could be a UFO or finishing an "in progress" quilt or a guild "sew along". But one quilt a month will help shrink the UFO pile! I have done it before and will try it again in 2016. (Yes, when I lose a month for moving, it will mean some month this year I will have to get 2 finished! With my pile of UFOs, it is certainly possible!)
Now all I need to learn is how to post photos of my finishes. :o

Happy New Year, Everyone! I want to join this group and get back on "track" to get my UFOs under control. Like you, WMUTeach, I have "more than 5 and less than 25", but that last number just might be bigger! We'll see when I get into the sewing room and count up. I'm so impressed with last year's group finishing over 300. WOW!! That's determination and perseverance. Hope to harness some of that and get on with the finishing that needs to happen here.

So I guess I'm between 5 and 25 too.

I'm in, don't have a lot of quilt UFO's. Have three in progress that I am determined to get finished. Two have been started in the last six months but the third is into its fourth year. I have a few other quilt things to finish, quilted wreath, quilted stockings and a few ideas to start so I think that should keep me busy in 2016. Looking forward to seeing everyone's finishes.

This thread is what I need yet again to keep me encouraged to finish what I've started. I haven't counted, and it's not many, but my UFOs are taking up valuable real estate in my sewing room and in my mind.

My day today will include quilting the one baby quilt for charity that needs to be finished. Maybe I can even start the binding??

With every new year I promise myself that this will be the year that I will tackle the stack of UFOs. Every new year there are more UFOs added to the list and very few finishes. Maybe this will be the year that I actually get something done. I'm in.

I'm in! A year ago I didn't feel I had enough UFO's - but I've been busy and my stack of them has really grown, so it's time to get serious about getting them done.

First job will be to locate and identify them all, and I've got a shelf next to my sewing table to keep them on. Those are all started but pre-floppy stage. The tops waiting to be quilted will be stored like they are now - in a tote under the long arm. Most of those will go in the "DH can quilt" stack, but I few ones that need special quilting I'll keep for myself. He's a computer drive kind of guy, though he's hinted he may want to start FMQ also (YEA!)

I've got one non-quilt sewing project that I have to complete. It's a "fix" of something I made and put the wrong color ribbon on, so I'm correcting that. I've got two more to remove the ribbon from and then I can start putting the correct color on and putting them back together. I've had them back for over a year, so it's really time to finish and get them out where they can be used!

However most of this weekend is dedicated to moving into the Quilt Retreat - the east end of my Machine Shed. The long arm will be the last to get moved, and that should be on Sunday. The fun part will be to see just how many sewing machines I can get move OUT of the house! And once that is done, I can start rearranging my sewing area and organizing my stash. And while I'm doing that, I'll put together the list of UFO's I've got.

I'm so with you, granny2cc...my mission will be put on hold while I focus on EOY bookwork, but then I will do a quilt count....thanks JMcC for getting us on the right track....

I'm in this year also. I have five quilts I need to get done. First one needs to be done by January 15. Next one needs to be done by February 21. I need a new summer quilt. My last one is just one I want to do. I'm doing one for a quilt guild challenge. How do we get into all this mess.

I just might consider joining this challenge as I have 4 baby quilts to start and or finish, two are for boy and girl twins that are due in March, but might come earlier; one completed top to sandwich and quilt, and another baby quilt for a dear friend's daughter who had a little girl last Sept.; so I just might need this incentive to complete some of my projects. Oh, by the way, those 4 baby quilts I'd like to finish in Jan., early Feb., as I have been asked to make a king sized quilt for our DS and DDIL, a quilt to be made from one SIL's embroidered blocks (haven't figured out how I want to do that as yet because the embroidered fabric is very thin, might want to put another white fabric in back, or use fusible interfacing before starting to put them together); then there is the Boston Commons quilt for ME, that I started to collect batik fabrics for about 8 years ago, but haven't started, although I think I have enough batiks to make the top, and the list goes on. I have a headache. LOL. Good luck. I just might join, to give me incentive to start and finish those quilts. Wish me luck.

OK, I am in. I have a lot of charity quilts to either quilt or have a friend quilt them. Mostly I just need to sew the backing and cut the batting which I bought for myself for Xmas a roll of Hobbs batting.

I will join in I have 5 that have been started and not finished that I can think of, and I may find more as I get started and get more organized. And two I planned to do in 2015 and haven't started. Time to climb out of my slump and get going on the ufos so I can jump into all the other projects I want to do too, that have been gathering cobwebs in my head because I wanted to get the others finished before starting more.

I'm in again! I was cleaning my sewing area and made a list of my UFO's. Some are in the very early stage of having pieces cut for them, partially sewn, etc, to needing binding. I didn't prioritize but I think that would be a good idea.

One of my UFO's is from a HST Challenge last year and the gal running the challenge wished her quilt had been bigger. She added wider borders but decided to run another challenge this year and will offer 2 blocks a week for 25(?) weeks. The best part is that one block each week will be the same as last year so I have 1/2 of the blocks made already! Yeah! Plus I have enough material to make the other blocks with the exception of my background fabric which I may be 1/2 yard short. So I am hopeful that I will have a new quilt on my bed by the end of summer!

I am also between 5 and 25 but barely. Lol! I have 24 but 10 of those are baby quilt tops and I may need to enlarge some and then add batting and backing, pillow turn, top stitch, and hand off to someone to tie.

My main order of business is to finish my son and his fiancee's quilt which is not in this number since I just recently started it. I will work on UFO's as a diversion.

I know I will start other projects too.

I also want to try and finish some UFO's with the quilt-as-you-go technique and have them available for fundraisers.

I'd like to join! I haven't done a tally, but I suspect between 10 and 25 projects and quilts. One finish a month would be a great start, allowing me to start something new in between finishes.

Count me in. This might be the way to spur me on to the Finish Line. One problem I have is joining the SWAP groups here on Quilting Board, and thus I have an accumulation of Halloween Blocks and Witchy Sue blocks, as well as Autumn Leaf. And there's my Christmas Showcase quilt made of 5 inch squares... and a green quilt for my friend Diane. If I could accomplish five? That would be wonderful.

I'm in again, finished 5 last year but have added 3 more. At least it's going the right direction.

I'm in...I have a room full of fabric and some patterns, so there must be SOME UFO's! haha My goal is to not purchase items, but to use what I have already purchased. I can buy items to finish what gets started. Right now I have a baby blanket to complete and a few others to start. My two nephews wives are prego, so it would be nice to make them a little something for the new babies.

I'm going to try to get back in this year. Last year life just got away from me. I did finish a UFO in December. It was a modified sampler using random orphan blocks plus leftover sections of borders bindings, etc.

I'm already working on another UFO, this is one my son started but got overwhelmed so I am finishing it for him. It's pretty complicated and he has never made a quilt before so I understand him giving up on it. LOL I have another one to finish, I'll work on it when I need a break from my son's quilt.
These are by no means all my UFO's, these are just the ones I am having at first. And of course always have to make time for the comfort quilts as need requires.

Ok I'm in. I didn't think I was that bad on UFO's, but then I counted today. I have 23 - all in different phases. But, in all fairness, I do a lot of charity quilts and I do them in an 'assembly line' process. So, to break it down, I have 9 tops to be quilted, 9 that are in various states of piecing, 2 that 'just' need binding. For personal projects, I have 2 table runners to quilt and bind and 1 top that's to be hand quilted. Guess I'd better get off the computer and get busy!

Ok, I'll give a whirl. I always have high ambitions to get a LOT of quilts made but by summer I am worn out... something always comes up to take me off schedule and then I get so far behind - it's overwhelming.

By my count I have 9 UFOs including 2 baby quilts due by March, Allietare, and Hancock Fabrics Lewis & Clark BOM started 10 years ago - top is finished..just have to layer & quilt it!!
I am not counting my on-going leader & ender project although I should be able to finish one in a couple months...so that might be 10.

I started and finished 12 quilts in 2015 so 9 for 2016 should be doable.
As soon as I finish a Wizard of Oz quilting I am working on now I plan to finish Allietare.
After that I must inventory my fabric before I can go any further.
I started 2015 with 640 yards and used 70 but I think my current total is 655! I purchased more than planned.
But 2016 has got to be the year of using up my stash!
I want to get down to.... well below 600 at least!
Wonder if Allietare should count as fabric used in 2015 or 2016.... well I started it in 2015 so that's what I'm going with.

I'm in. I haven't counted my UFO's, but I'll commit to completing one project a month. I'm in the process of making my list now. Looking forward to it!

I'm in. I have accumulated some UFOs over a few years and I'd like to finish some of them this year.

Count me in. I have so many UFO's that it would take too long to count.

Count me in. Have a bunch of UFO'S but haven't counted how many. Will start tomorrow but which one first? They are all hanging in a closet, maybe I should just close my eyes and grab one.

I'm going to give this a try -not 1 a month but maybe 1 every other month. One reason for this is because I am trying to do my own FMQ - I'm a beginner. The 1st quilt I want to finish is a T-shirt quilt for my grandson followed by a wall hanging for my daughter, which was supposed to be a Christmas present. I also have some baby charity quilts to do.

I haven't counted my other UFOs but I'm sure I'm close to the 25 count. Anyway, I will make a list in priority order and give it a go. Another stumbling block for me are some pending surgeries.

Happy to see this thread for 2016, I am hoping to complete one UFO per month, last year I completed 8 ~~ my goal was again 12. I am ready to board the Train. :)

What a great idea to go "public" about UFO's. Our "project and challenge co-ordinator" at my quilting group has prepared an interesting year ahead for the group and I would like to be able to take part knowing that I do not have a string of UFO's waiting to be finished.

Thanks for putting up the challenge. I did make it a goal on my blog to tidy up the unfinished before starting something new and now that I have gone "public" it will keep me honest.......hopefully.

I have a finish to kick off the New Year! I made this wallhanging several years ago and was inspired to finish it last month after realizing it would look great in my newly painted/furnished family room. I almost had the quilting done on it by Christmas, but didn't quite get it done before having to lay it aside for the holidays. Today, I was able to sit down and finish it up. So pleased with how it turned out and it has taken its place over my sofa! I have about 10 more UFO's to plow through this year, so one a month would be a reasonable goal. The hard part will be staying the course and dividing my free time between quilting and other interests.

I don't have many UFO's but I do have one in particular that has been haunting me for a couple of years... so I'm in.
It is a tumbling block quilt I started for my son and he reminded me at Christmas that he still hasn't gotten his quilt while other's have. :shock: I thought he had forgotten about it but obviously not.

I always post a list first of January (learned here on the QB a few years back) which itemizes specific projects and goals. Some of my finishes in 2015 were 4 window valances for our master bedroom, learned how to post pictures on the QB, practiced FMQ on my new Janome 8900 and machine applique. For 2016, paper piecing is top on my list along with my son's quilt. Let the good times roll....

I will be jumping on this train too-- I have way too many! Large and small in many stages of completion from just cut out, partially made blocks, stacks of blocks, constructed tops needing borders and tops waiting for quilting... Some I want to just make go away ( pass on) , some I truly want to finish. I can certainly use some encouragement and motivation. :)

Count me in! I'm still counting UFO's, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20. I'm working on Bonnie Hunters latest mystery quilt and I have a baby quilt to make, then my goal is to finish one UFO before starting a new project. Hopefully this will help me get the UFO's under control.

i can't even total my UFOs. i did, however, organize them when cleaning up my sewing area for Christmas entertaining. the handwork will be done at my weekly sewing bee. believe it or not, my avatar is a UFO... all it needs is the binding sewn to the back. and i hope to finish setting up the quilt frame today to get the quilting done. i hope that joining this thread will keep me motivated.

It doesn't matter if you have one unfinished project, 5 of them, 17 (egads, that's me :/) or a hundred, just jump on board and we'll start chipping away at those numbers! Let's encourage each other to start on one this weekend. Pick any one and let's get started - if you haven't already.

My first one is a small wall hanging I threw together one afternoon a year ago. It only needs a binding and it will be done. This weekend I WILL Finish it! How about you?

Decided to follow you all and work on getting my piles done too! I have two completed tops and backs that need to be sandwiched and quilted. I have two tops and backs which I have worked on while having a concussion and they need to have some redoing (I went to iron them and couldn't believe all my booboos) I have two t-shirt/memory quilts to do and I have been organizing my fabric with patterns in 15x15 zip loc bags.
