However, I have not bought new fabric because I like it. It has to have a distinct purpose and that I don’t have something that can work. I have been using stash yardage for backings on smaller quilts. I will piece some backings if it will be coordinated.
I am hoping to start working on donation quilts for the kids that graduate and are leaving the foster care system. I will make mostly scrappy bright quilts with one coordinate. You are all inspiring me to use what I have. |
Oh what a great idea, Darcys...
My two grands are sewing. One has used 4 yards of stash making pillowcases. The other is working on a small quilt all from my stash. We need to get a backing for the quilt, so going to LQS for some tomorrow. |

Your gift to each will be a reminder that someone is thinking of him/her as they face the future. It must be a scary time for them. God bless you.. and them! |
Last seam of the Wonky Bright top is done, however there is not enough of the fabric I am using on the back for the front borders and at 56x80 it needs some borders to get to twin sized. Pulled out another fabric I had in reserve to take to Tuesday group for their opinions, it goes fine with the top, not so great with the back but if I use a plain black binding it will work and it happens that I have plain black binding already made...
I'll check my stash, I think have another piece big enough I think will work but I'm pretty sure I mailed that one out... so it goes! Improvisation and grooving with the moving is what this project is about. Last week I did buy one piece of fabric at the thrift store, I need to measure it -- I think it may be metric measurement and not vintage, but it's definitely narrower than 44/45". On the other side of the equation, last week I mailed out the box of trimmings to the crumb quilter (large flat rate box). I also sent out a collector's request (half a medium box), found a new (appreciative) home for some creepy clown fabric that I got in a thrift store bundle I have already admitted to, and sent two more large flat rate boxes to another quilter I met here on the boards (she accepts the flannel that I get in bundles). That included a huge piece (6 yds or so...) of a fun flannel I got at the thrift store and the pink fabrics I had picked up/given to me before we found out my grandbaby will be a boy. Today at group I am still doing the hand sewing of the binding of what I call the "Under the Sea" quilt. And then it's time to figure out what I'm going to do next... |
Iceblossom, I love the "moving with the grooving" phrase!

Hello!! So....on my journey to my new home, I stopped at a couple of LQS Utah and purchased some fabrics for my next project plus...some orange blender for the Gypsy Wife quilt pattern I am kitting up. I do not have hardly any orange in stash...so..exceptions for me... I am now in my new city so I am likely going to visit a few shops here but I use restraint...*palm up..taking oath**

But you have to get out and get acquainted. Hope you find fellow quilters in your new community!

This week, I finally got all the extra fabric off the LA. Got a large lap quilt quilted and put on another. My mind was wandering and over the clamps it tried to sew. Couldn't find the tool to change the needle, DH found it so tomorrow, back to the LA. Feels good to get back to the quilting. Must have 20 quilts all lined up, backing, binking all ready.

Teen how exciting! And you really should get to know your new LQSs. Petthefabric that sounds like fun. I completed one quilt that needs binding (binding fabric from stash) and have two more ready to sandwich. All backing from stash and two tops made from stash.
Was so excited by the quilt show here last week. I couldn't wait till it came and then when it was here I was ill and couldn't attend anyway:(. Not the way I would like to stay on our moratorium at all! Plus missing all the beautiful quilts. |
A prayer quilt top and back finished with only part of the back being purchased - the rest from my own stash and the inherited stash from my sister in law. It's at the church so others can put the ties in. I'll get a picture when it comes back for binding.
