2020 Penguins
In April I got an email about this new BOM starting, of course I couldn't resist such a cute little penguin. Unfortunately I just found out the parts needed to repair my good machine are in a warehouse under Covid19 Lock down in Ontario, so who knows when I will get it back to actually stitch this little block down. I thought I would post it just fused because the pattern is only free for the month it is posted. I see my fabrics are very similar to hers...Oh well, guess you can't change the colours on a penguin much, haha....https://pumpkinpatchbc.com/2020/04/0...e-bom-block-1/

Okay...I didn't realize when I made my post that it would have to be approved...and at this time I have not figured out how to put a picture into my original posting.... so let me see if I can add my picture now, thanks for your patience and hope if you decide to join their BOM that you will post your pictures here as well.

Thanks for posting this info. I haven't done an applique for a while now and this one is too cute!
|
Your penguin is a cutie and will be a nice addition to any quilt Where is this block of the month taking you so far. Are all the blocks cute animals like the penguin? Thanks for sharing.
|
Yours is so cute. Colors have just enough contrast to not get lost.
Keep showing them, I adore Beatrice's designs and she also does a superb job of longarm quilting. |
That is too cute! I want to join in. It would make a darling baby quilt.

Thank you so much for sharing. This is adorable. Definitely on my to do list!! Now to see what I can use from home. The line at Joann Fabrics to go in, is just way too long. Not worth going. I'm sure I can unearth something fun from stash. Thank goodness for at least some stash! This looks like my next fun project. I needed something fun. Thank you again for sharing.

Cute!
This is a long shot, but where in Ontario are the parts locked down? Maybe if they are near me I could convince the people to let me pick them up and I could mail them to you? I'm in London. Watson |
Oh Judith that is too cute with the patchwork background, gre-e-a-t idea!
|
Love the light purple patchwork in the background. Also like the non-solid black on the penguin. Really cute!
|
Thank you ladies. I took my cue from the designer and thimblebug. I went scrappy with what I had at home. And, I love patchwork.

Rats...too bad May has 31 days! Anyone else have their May block to post before we spring off into June?
|
Yay! The June block is posted, looking forward to tracing him out after my walk. Love to see what anyone else has done with these blocks.
pumpkinpatchbc.com and then click on the blog ..... this old PC (and operator) won't do a direct link for me, sorry! |

I have finished the June block today! Once I trace them, I just have to work on them, I think the pattern is really cute! Hope anyone else who is collecting the patterns or making them, will post their pictures each month too.
|
Thimblebug, your blocks are darling. I need to get onto mine. I hope to work on my tomorrow morning. Keep the cuties coming.
|
Thanks Judith1005 ! Look forward to seeing yours......
|

So cute! I'm determined to find some time this weekend to at least make a start on these (it's been a while since I did any applique...)

My July penguin....I did reverse the pattern pieces on the one foot as I prefer that look to the original twisted foot.
|
Your penguins are so cute, thimblebug! I love them! I'm downloading each month and hope to start once I have a few more UFOs done.
|
NZquilter, love to see them whenever you get started...I am retired and with stay-at-home lifestyle have time to sew anytime...enjoy your young family ...sewing will wait 😀😀
|
So I made a start - I've pulled my fabrics for both the penguin block patterns I have (3 & 4), and marked up my HeatnBond for both. I got as far as cutting out the shapes for Mr Bowtie-and-Earmuffs (3), but haven't appliqued him down yet.
Really enjoying this one. Hope to make more progress during the week... (I have a little one to look after too :-)) |
Panchita, enjoy your young ones....as I mentioned above I am retiired so have time on my hands
|
Panchita, not sure if you know this or not, but if you wanted the previous block patterns you can purchase them for a small fee from her site. I have never done this, but I see the charge is just $2 Cdn.
|
Hi Thimblebug, and thank you for the info. $4 CDN for the two I've missed seems more than reasonable, bearing in mind I'm hoping to get the rest of it for free!!! I'll be sure to get them at some point soon.
I have progressed a bit with my two current blocks. I've done 98% of the applique on the hockey player (not done the cheeks yet - ran out of time!) and am really pleased with it. Not started appliqueing Mr Bow Tie yet. It's been a while since I appliqued so I had to spend more time than I anticipated reacquainting myself with how my machine and I work it - I've forgotten which stitch I used to use for applique (for reasons unknown my machine doesn't have a simple blanket stitch or similar) so I experimented with various different stitches, and think I've settled on one. Though I may change my mind as we go on... https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png |
I have been using my satin stitch for this project, with a rayon thread
