Pretty quilts Dragonfly Nana

LeslieFrost 04-22-2012 05:16 PM

Suziehammond, so glad to have you join us! You are right -- you might as well make several and mail them all at once!

What a great group to bring to our attention. This is right down my alley. Since I live overseas I can make several and send all at once for the same price as they are light and small. Thanks!

Dragonfly Nana, those Bono Roses are fabulous! I can see why you wanted to do those -- they are very beautiful and graphic.

oksewglad 04-22-2012 07:09 PM

Lovely roses, Paula!

Dragonfly Nana 04-22-2012 08:17 PM

Thank you Ladies. I hope they do well for AAQI Pam Bono is one of my favorite deisgners.

I read on the site to be sure to get the designer's permission if you use a pattern from any where. Some fabric designers don't allow their fabric to be used in 'for sale' projects and these do go on sale. So, be careful. Someone who donates these said hers was refused because she did not get permission to use a pattern. So it was returned to her for that.

LeslieFrost 04-23-2012 09:37 AM

Yes, Beequilter, that is true. AAQI is very careful about that. If your little quilt is not an original design, then you must say where you saw the pattern, and must enclose consent from the designer when you mail in your quilt.

One place to look for designs to use is McCall's quilting mags. On one of the Contents pages, at the bottom, you'll find a blanket statement of permission to use any of the designs.

I have found, however, that designers are glad to give permission for their designs to be used in AAQI quilts, as they know that they'll get proper acknowledgment, and the quilts are going for a good cause.

Anyone can PM me for more on this subject!

Very true Leslie. The designer that gave me permission for the roses asked only that I send her a picture of the finished product so she could post on her Facebook page. In her posting she not only showed the picture but explained about AAQI and how proud she was that one of her designs was being used for such a worthy cause.

That will reach a lot of quilters and hopefully inspire some of them to help AAQI too!

LeslieFrost 04-23-2012 03:29 PM

That's great, Nana! The more who know, the better!

After one of the ones I made sold, I sent another email to the designer to let her know.

Great Challenge Leslie!!!! I just sent you pm of my five quilts so far. Maybe I'll up my own challenge and do five minis in June. I encourage everyone to JOIN the QUILT A MONTH CLUB on AAQI.org. In addition, you can join the $1000 promise (mine have raised $525 so far).

I didn't know if I should post before registration but I see you said it was OK. So these are the two I'll donate and register next wk...Just have to make label for back...I think I'll title them Indoor Cat one and two...Also showing the back to both.....I have 3 others in the works.

oksewglad 05-27-2012 03:44 PM

A "Purrfect Pair"! Do you have a kitty looking in, too?

candi 05-27-2012 07:51 PM

Very pretty ladies, such beautiful minis you all are creating.

I noticed that they seem to be backed up posting quilts, there are so many quilts on their website "awaiting assignment"..hope that is a good sign of many donations being received.

Yesterday, I took pics of my wild rose hedge for a friend and then later that day, I saw your mini of the wild rose. The flower shapes and yellow centers are identical!

rwquilts 05-29-2012 05:47 AM

Krisb, your rose is so sweet! Loved the "real" pink flowers to go with posted! :)

Hobbykat1955, your kitties looking out windows are adorable! Great job! :)

n2scraplvr 05-29-2012 10:37 AM

My last 5 mailed were #'s 10,284-10,288.

Dragonfly Nana 05-29-2012 02:40 PM

Lovely quilts, Ladies. Leslie - what is the name of our group for the challenge? I do not see one on the AAQI site for us?

Krisb 05-29-2012 08:09 PM

Here's the 2nd I finished. Waiting for the number. Never tried shadow trapunto before.

What a lovely piece; depicts a strong message with the 2 bird images.

...off subject, just for a second...

n2scraplvr, don't those wild roses smell so heavenly sweet? We have 3 huge bushes in our back yard and last year DH lined our front property with cuts from these wild roses. One blessing of being in a windy area is the sweet aroma floating all over the place. Very intoxicating.

You described the scent perfectly! And yes so heavenly, especially with the honeysuckles I've allowed to mix in with the hedge! I can just imagine how beautiful your bushes are and what an aroma with so many planted! The wild rose is the BEST!!

n2scraplvr 06-04-2012 08:01 PM

Almond, you did a fantastic job! The 1st one really grabbed me! How adorable and it looks much larger than it is! Second one is very nice too! WTG!!

oksewglad 06-05-2012 04:19 PM

Two great submissions, Almond!

SewExtremeSeams 06-06-2012 05:34 AM

Almond, I like your little quilts and your display.

I love that li'le machine! Darlin'!

rwquilts 06-06-2012 11:51 AM

Almond your quilts are soo cute!

I am a bit sad that because there are about a bazillion quilts and they don't get to them very quickly, my little quilt still hasn't even been photographed. I'm thinking when you send them in, it's months before you get to see anyone buy anything you made? I just need to chill! :)

I've wondered about that with so many quilters donating little quilts.

Cheer up RW. At the right time, it will get posted.

I'm cheery in my sadness! LOL! Didn't you see my smiley face? How are things in the Tri Cities today? :)

Is this OK to submit? Its about 8 x 9. Its 3D applique, crayons for the leaves (yes crayons...) and machine stippling. I didn't want to fill out the registration before I found out whether it is suitable.

JNCT14 06-08-2012 03:30 AM

sorry that is sort of a lousy picture. It is a rectangle........

oksewglad 06-08-2012 07:00 AM

Another lovely Almond.
RW--All the work is done by volunteers and I think AAQI has been inundated with quilts this past spring and it takes time to get the photos taken etc. It will happen. One of the big events is the quilts taken to Houston to the International Quilt Market in November. Last year 1500 quilts were taken to be sold. It really exposes the quilts to a "human" audience rather than internet.
If you are on FB you can "like" AAQI and "share" to let your family and friends know what you have been upto. And maybe they will inturn support the cause with a purchase.

JNCT14--looks like a little lovely! Here are the "rules" If the mini you've done fits the criteria then go for it!! (Which I think it does.)

Sorry, didn't see your smile! :D Could have been due to all the rain, wind, rain, rain, and wind in our area. Oh, and helicopters over our farm to keep the water off the cherry orchards. :D (almost constant for 3 weeks). :D
