Well I'm up and moving already today. Got my "neutrals" (or in my case, school bus yellow) cut. I'm making squares and then drawing the lines and cutting apart for my HST.

I'm really happy when she allows us to use all the dark/medium blues together. One of my favorite pieces in the whole bag of home dyes was just right in-between the dark and medium. I can use it when we don't have to keep the contrast and so I shall.

So far the pace has been pretty easy and reasonable, still time for people to join in. I'd say one day to choose your fabrics and one day for each step will still let you get your dinner cooked and other chores done.

Unless you are a mom with little kiddos, then there is no hope! :D My sewing time is nearly nothing now. Putting borders on a quilt in one day is a good sewing day for me.

Iceblossom 12-13-2019 08:20 AM

Ah, the days of the littles :) Yes, some of you have your hands full of squirmy young 'uns. Quilts and fabric can wait, children only have now. In some ways my chronic insomnia has been good to me, my sewing time was 10:00 pm until midnight. Of course, getting up at 5:00 am was sort of awful but it gave me the 4 hours that was all I got.

NZquilter 12-13-2019 08:47 AM

Sorry about your insomnia, Iceblossom! My mom had it and I saw how hard getting to sleep was for her. She would be exhausted, but couldn't sleep.

I'm downloading each clue and might chip away at it over the next year. I'm still quilting a bit here and there, just not everyday. It's all just a season, so I'm enjoying living the moment to the fullest with the little ones. But I did tell Hubby that, once the kids have grown and moved out, not to expect me to go try to find a job! I have too many quilts on my bucket list to keep me busy! :D Stay-at-home-mom will become stay-at-home-quilter.

KalamaQuilts 12-13-2019 09:07 AM

good plan NZ. In my busiest times I always made sure I had 15 minutes good sewing time. You can get anything done that way.

Well. For Pete's Sake.
Cut my strips, sewed them together, Ironed them so nicely open.
Grabbed my Easy Angle Ruler. So now I have them all pressed shut nicely and seam ripper at the ready :)
What an idjot. Good thing I'm only making 1/3 size. But my 30's fabrics are so cheerful, any fabric tiime is good time.

SusieQOH 12-13-2019 10:17 AM

I found this helpful for making the HST's. I'm going to use my Bloc Loc to trim. I think I'll use 3.5 to be sure.

Angelia, you have fantastic neutrals. What fun the lucky recipient will have looking at each of them. The raspberries are lovely too.

waltonalice 12-13-2019 10:28 AM

ArmyBandvet - great neutrals.

waltonalice 12-13-2019 10:40 AM

Pamela, your raspberry fabrics are amazing.

KalamaQuilts 12-13-2019 10:42 AM

ok, only took about 25 minutes to deconstruct. And my little blocks are coming our perfect, so cute.

JeanieG 12-13-2019 11:13 AM

With my arthritis is is difficult to cut for any length of time. I find my Sizzix is a Godsend. I just pulled my die and started cutting. They just come out perfect, with no dog ears to cut off!

thank you!

is this a step that an accuquilt could be used for? I’ve read it a few times and am not sure how I want to try to tackle it. I’ve got two stockings I have to finish first so plenty of time to read and plan before I’ll be able to start.

SusieQOH 12-13-2019 01:14 PM

Ohhh I forgot about my Accuquilt!!!

Just thought of something though- I plan to cut my squares a bit bigger and then trim them. But that's a lot-.

Not sure what to do. I like that Bloc Loc though. Makes HST's really accurate.

KalamaQuilts 12-13-2019 01:17 PM

I have 2/3's of my 1/3 size finished! And my black constant is here so after the prewash I'll 'stage' my bits on that for show and tell.
I followed the link on the blog to this year's shared image site, can't think of the the name but after a minute I got a popup saying I had to sign up and I'm not bothering.

Here are my Clue #3 units. I used Thangles since I had the correct size. I like Thangles because they very accurate, the only thing I don't like is removing the papers. I am using purple for the blue and only making 1/3 of the units for now. I finally feel like I have enough parts to make a small quilt. I am used to working long hours on a quilt top until I have it completed so this a different experience for me. Maybe it is teaching me patience. :)

Sorry for the duplicate image, I had a hard time getting the picture to load, then it loaded twice.

Iceblossom 12-13-2019 01:50 PM

I'm happily sewing away. I even cut the correct number of darks/mediums to go with my neutrals/yellows! Yay me, first time I've done it right the first time. Ok, I actually did cut one extra set of the yellows but shh, nobody knows :p

Did my first set of 12, found that yes, I am cutting large so I can trim down but I cut way large. Was also getting used to my portable Brother, it's 1/4" quilting foot is pretty good. The first set I narrowed it down a bit but now (especially since I cut over) I'm using the outer edge of the foot and am happy with the seams.

Goal for today is to finish the seams, easy goal I like them manageable. About 1/3 will be cut apart and pressed, the rest can wait for pressing tomorrow, probably cut them apart tonight while watching tv. I'll take them to small group on Tuesday for trimming and post a picture after that. I'm rather happy with this set/clue -- but that dark purple is still looking black in comparison to the lights.

When not working on this, I'm finishing up another project which I just finished putting together the center of the quilt last night, next is to put borders on it. I'll still need another project to work on concurrently with the Frolic project so think I'm going to make another one of the one I'm working on -- but with very different fabrics and a larger block size. I've been detailing that over in this thread, life is better now that I took the top apart and put it back together again!

Your purples are lovely Colorado Quilter! Here's my HST's. I'm changing up the colors....so I almost messed this up...thankfully I caught it before I cut a bunch. I'm making 1/4 of the units double size.

(Picture is a bit grainy because I resized it quite a bit.)

WMUTeach 12-13-2019 05:14 PM

Oh, be still my heart. I was just about to save today's Frolic directions and I could not find the file with the first two sets of directions. Silly me. I named the file BH Mystery-Folic but did not put it in the quilt patterns file. Love those HST! finished a project early this fall with nearly 500 of those little dudes. The amount for part 3 sounds easy peasy! :D

I am so jealous of all you who are tootling right along and keeping up. I have not touched my hand quilting project in more than a week and only have one Christmas quilt nearly finished. It is the end of the semester and my students kind of like to have their grades on time. My life is not my own but in a few more days---------Freedom! Then I will dive into the sewing room and at least pick out my fabrics for the BHMQ. I lurk here every day to I can drool over your colors and accomplishments.

I cut my HSTs with the HST die. I almost cut plain squares so I could get bonus triangles but decided not to. I plan to cut solely with the accuquilt as long as I have a die that will work.

joe'smom 12-13-2019 10:22 PM

Kristi, loving your fabrics!

I am not that fast. I think this is the first year I've finished clues in 2 days.

For HSTs 2" and under I use paper. The selling point for me is no trimming. I obstinately refuse to trim if I can possibly avoid it. I have my fabric pairs cut and ready to sew tomorrow.

Thank you Susie for the link. I know I made them like this last year, so much quicker and easier for me.

SusieQOH 12-14-2019 07:19 AM

Your welcome, Sandra-P! I always forget those charts and am glad I found one.

Colorado- I love Thangles! I'm going to look for mine. I have several sizes somewhere in my cave :D Love your blocks
Kristi and Tweety- love your blocks!

Krisb 12-14-2019 07:36 AM

I spent hours yesterday fixing our cable TV, finishing the new shoe bench, read the clue fir this week, pulled fabric, then spent about an hour looking for my Easy Angle ruler without success. Then broke that to talk with our handyman/painter about finishing the carport. He decided he wanted to also paint some of the skirting because “it just doesn’t look good”, the hose stand, take down the old TV antenna, and he found some trim that was missed the first time. So today it’s off to buy paint, which will bring me within a block of JAF, so of course I will get another Easy Angle—with a 40% coupon. All the strips are cut, so Clue 3 should be done by tonight. Only doing half.

Iceblossom 12-14-2019 09:10 AM

Just got done pressing my units for this week. I'm feeling really good about my "school bus yellow" instead of neutral, I think it was the right way to go with the rest of the fabrics. I did manage to sew two blues to one yellow which I didn't catch until pressing. Didn't notice it in the count so much because I did accidentally make too many yellows.

Part of me really wants to trim down those units and get it done already, but if I do that, then I won't have anything ready to take to my Tuesday group, so they are sitting there until then.

Hubby still sleeping in, going to trim the edges of my other project so I can put the border on and then wake him up and make him go on a walk with me and the dog or something... I need to layout the top on the bed so I can make some decisions about the border treatment.

origamigoldfish 12-14-2019 05:35 PM

I pulled fabrics today, but checked the weather report and decided to put up my christmas trees instead. We are supposed to get 4-7 inches of snow and up to an inch of ice tomorrow night and monday, so I'm planning on sewing my way through the storm as long as the power holds out. I'm not comfortable with little pieces on my treadle yet...I still break the thread too often!

Today was catch up day for me. I also changed my green and aqua fabric. My hst's went so fast I couldn't believe it. Doing 8 at a time trick makes them go fast. All I have to do now is to trim them. Here's the new aqua and green fabrics.

And I only have three seams to sew and I'll have completed the 2nd of two leader ender tops. I'll drag out the big table and get them basted this week.

NZquilter 12-15-2019 09:59 AM

Oh, those are the cutest! I would use all caps if I could! I absolutely love 30's prints.

IrishNY 12-15-2019 10:03 AM

Feathers, thanks for the tip abut the die. I've had an AccuQuilt gift card since last Christmas and just haven't seen anything that I really wanted. This was the perfect use, and since I had some left over, I got a LeMoyne Star die too!

joe'smom 12-15-2019 10:58 AM

KalamaQ, that's going to be so wonderful! I love your dot and the black you chose.

Queenbarbiej, they look great!

JeanieG 12-15-2019 11:16 AM

Kalama - love the neutrals you are using! I have some left over 30's prints from the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt we did together here on the board! That is going to be a very "happy" quilt!

quiltsRfun 12-15-2019 12:02 PM

Looking good Kalama.

The only problem is that the finished size needs to be 2.5 not 2
