You make me giggle.

I have keep getting distracted by rabbit trails in my sewing room but the result last weekend was two kits for quilts that I can do in the future. One is all cut and ready to go. The second quilt kit is a gathering of all the fabric and pattern needed for a large cream and light tan quilt that was on my to do list. It is now a little bit closer to moving from a good idea to real quilt. Not out of the stash yet but moving in that direction. Tee-Hee-Hee

Well, in light of the news about the cotton crop, I made a conscious decision to fall off the wagon this morning. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I bought 7 yards of fabric from MSQ's flash sale...

Over the last 2 weeks I’m staying away from fabric. I have been buying batting and thread to quilt my tops. Not sure what I will do with them after I complete them though. Maybe Christmas presents? Undecided. But, I do plan to continue to complete my projects and use my stash.

I do need to buy solid black backing for my Halloween quilt. I’m hoping for some good sales on this item over the weekend.

I finished one yesterday! All from scraps/stash except the back which I purchased. I was careful to not over buy and have less than a fat eighth left over. Ta-Da!

Looks great WMUTeach and clearly your quilting inspector agrees. Good job on managing to get just enough backing!

I love the freshness of your quilt. WMUTeach. The cat is pretty, too. I recently went from being a strictly dog lover to being owned by three cats. It's different!

I pride myself on never making the same mistake twice - well, I did it. My baby quilt is planned for 25 blocks, so I cut enough fabric for 25 blocks. Uh, it's two different blocks so I need 12 of one and 13 of the other. I see two quilts in my near future, but I only know one person having a baby boy. The sad thing is I could have used the orange I wanted if I had known I only needed 12 blocks. I did the same thing at church several years making prayer quilts - that was 49 blocks. No big deal, we can always use more.
I may need to shop for fabric for backings as these two baby quilts will be gifts and I'm drawing a blank on what I have in my stash. My LQS has multiple totes of $4 a yard fabric. Hopefully, there will be something there. If not, some of Hobby Lobby's fabrics work well for backing. Does that fit in the moratorium? Yes, IMO, as long as I buy exactly what I need and use it the minute it comes out of the dryer.

Love your quilt, you always come up with interesting designs. Kitty is cute too!

That's a great quilt, WMUTeach! I love the controlled scrappy look and the bright cohesion of your colour selections. Thanks also for the ideas for kitting out quilts-to-be. I still have that sprawl of fabrics on the sewing table, but might just package them up with a list of ideas/patterns for now as I need to step away from the machine and focus on some other things for a little bit. Always room and some time for dreams and ideas, though. :-)

I did have the chance to do a small project on impulse as a thank you gift: a couple of potholders/trivets. I didn't have any of the special heatproof batting but used a double layer of some leftovers I had and all fabrics came from my stash. I hadn't worked with a double layer of batting before and encountered a few challenges, but they worked out well and I'm pleased with them. I'm also glad to have discovered the "feel" of double-batting - it's not something I think I would want to use on a larger project, so I learned something useful as well.

WMUTeach, rryder, happylab quiltsfor, Irishrose - I applaud the intentionality and caution of your purchases, but am also sad to hear the news about yet more climate-related crises. Our world is suffering and those who work and live closest to the land suffer with it.

Yet another reason to be mindful of the fabric we purchase and to imbue it with meaning and purpose through our craft.

I so often forget potholders. I should add those to my to do list and have them on hand for impromptu gifting. Take food to someone and leave the potholders, holiday gifts for friends or acquaintances to let them know they are appreciated or "whoops I missed your birthday" gifts. A good way to use scraps!
