I sorted, carefully, sorted what I brought home yesterday and some of it is going back. It is garment fabric, it has more than acceptable stretch, not good for a quilt back. When I looked at it, it was all folded up and I did not unfold. Low and behold it had a "T" shaped cut in it as if it were to be used for a costume. Maybe for a shepherd costume for a Christmas play. Nope, it doesn't leave enough for a backing. :( Total yardage less than three yards. Most of that will be used for a donation quilt backing. Good for my stash but not so good for me. I will need to keep looking for backings.

Wow - I've got behind on my FM reading! So much fun to show up and have a great conversation to catch up on, though. :-)

Well done to those of you who are managing to use up, pass on and resist where appropriate, and for those of us who have managed to acquire more fabric recently, however it happened, let's celebrate the "feel-good" of acquisition as well as of planning on using that fabric up! While the moratorium spirit moves us to use what we have first, the reality is that sometimes a purchase is the only way to be able to move forward, whether that's on a practical level or a personal one, and both are completely understandable. :-D

Welcome JaneSmith - it sounds like you and I have similar acquisition habits, tee hee! I'm slowly working out ways of using up random fabric and I'm inclined to celebrate even the tiny out-of-stash achievements. Hoping to share another one super-tiny one soon.

Well my,dearies, I purchased 4 yards of markdown fabric for the backing of a paper pieced UFO, pinwheel quilt. I also got two yards of a wideback for a UFO that was finished earlier this spring but started two years almost three years ago, ready to be layered. Lastly, I purchased two yards of wide back to cover my design board. After 30 plus years, The board is due a new cover. ;) So all fabric in will be fabric out very soon.... in the next few weeks I hope.

Guilt free shopping but motivated to move it out ASAP.

Job well done WMUTech! I have no doubt that those newly purchased fabrics won’t linger long before they are out the door or on the wall ASAP.

My latest offer from equilter is really tempting but although there is much lovely fabric out there, I am ok right now not acquiring it myself :) I think...

Haven't done a link of anything sewing or fabric related in the last week. Tomorrow is my sewing group day and I will be starting a new/all from stash project. Chevrons I posted earlier, I'm thinking of it as the Grass quilt, and might add in some corn yellows at the top for a color shift. I have a pale daisy I will be using for a consistent background. I've mentioned before that out of the hundreds (yikes - thousands??) of yards of fabric that have gone through my hands, I only really regret one piece of fabric I gave away, and I was testing/working on myself with that one. I had two very similar pieces, similar color, value, theme, yardage, etc. I decided I was only going to keep one and chose the daisies and let the buttercups go. So that was like 10 years ago?? and I am just now using the one I kept and still remember the one I gave away. As I evaluate my fabric nowadays, the "will I actually use in 5 years" is part of the process. But I am using now, so good for me!

Last week or so I went through my 6.5" strip box (that is, my smallest size of scrap I keep) and pulled a bunch of greens and corns from there. I think I will be cutting pieces roughly 3.5 x 12" and my crumb box should get quite a selection in these colors :)

I cave when I see a new Tilda collection.

The yardage that I brought home from a give away table in post # 251 is gone. What wasn't used I took to another quilting group last evening. Someone claimed it. Just another form of recycling.........kind of. Anyway not in my stash any longer. ;)

Killing time, still a couple minutes before I leave for my Tuesday group.

This is the daisy fabric I'll be using for half this chevron/Grass quilt idea. When I went into my stash, it wasn't really what I was looking for (much more pattern for one thing) but it will work. It is time to use it! Goal for today is to cut the background, then I have a huge stack of green 6.5 partial strips, and a few golden corn out of the small strip box before I go into the actual green and yellow collections.

I have an idea and a rough plan sketched out. There is enough of the background for a twin sized project. Goal for today is to cut the background and sashing strips and see what I have.

I’m off to the Road to VA show. Wish me luck in not coming home with loads of stuff! My brain is so focused on using what I have that I think I’ll be okay. I drug out my orphan blocks and pieces box and have made one top 62” x 78” and have started another that should end in the neighborhood of 50” x 60”. Almost my entire quilting history has been through my hands the past few weeks. What a trip it has been!

I confess that I broke moratorium earlier this week and purchased some stuff to finish scrap projects. There! I feel so much better! Happy sewing everyone.
