It's been ages since I logged on and popped in for some inspiration for a quilt I need to make but have no idea what pattern to make. I've been on a fabric moratorium for a while. I have SABLE (stash accumulated beyond life expectancy) and I started writing down my usage each month along trying to finish UFOs. I set a goal of 10 yards a month, which I met in January but failed totally in February. This month I'm working on a quilt to send to my son made completely from stash. Maybe I can make 2 months fit in one. It's National Quilting month right?

@Barbm I love SABLE! New term for me, and yes, I'm afflicted too. I've given myself a gentle pass for two months due to JoAnn closing, but am determined not to go hog wild as I've done in the past. I like your method of monthly accounting.

Just a short pop in to say I've finished the string quilt top I was working on - I'm figuring about 5 yards out allowing for the vast number of seams in each block. Not sure why my bins of fabric pieces still seem awfully full... Hope to find the time to post a picture soon!

Keep up the good work stash-busting, celebrating, confessing, commiserating and posting here, everyone! :-D

Yes, yes, yes! snap a photo for us. It is always an inspiration to see what others are working on. I experience the same thing. Make a quilt or two or even three with my 2.5" squares and the stash never seems to get smaller. Tee-Hee-Hee. Taking some of those little sweeties with me to my quilt retreat in a couple of weeks in hopes of putting them to use in a new scrap quilt. Fingers crossed to lighten the load of 2.5's before I get a new batch for my birthday. (I am part of the Birthday Swap here on the GB).

Okay - here it is. I couldn't get it to hang straight no matter what I did and trying to take pictures with it on the bed were even worse! It's finished at 60"x84". A bit of a strange size but it worked for my layout so that's what we've got. :-)

I really loved working with these colours and no fabric was purchased for the top, although you might recall there were some sneaky acquisitions that jumped into my arms at the guild free table a month or two ago. Glad to say a lot of them really helped with the cohesiveness of a couple of the blocks/rows.

I am also learning I love this kind of "controlled scrappy" quilt. My fabric collection is so chaotic with so many little pieces of random colours and prints - it can be really cathartic to find calmer combinations hidden away in the boxes and bring them together into a cohesive whole. :-)

Gorgeous. Very Dynamic.

Awesome project, Gemm! Isn't it amazing what our stash can do one small piece at a time? We can think of our fabric as brush strokes, or pixels, or big old blocks! As for the size, sometimes it is the fabric that dictates the project and I'd say you achieved "just right".

I love a pretty string quilt and this is one of the prettiest I’ve seen!

Fell off the wagon yesterday: went to LQS to get aurifil thread in the color I need to finish a church donation quilt and this jelly roll just jumped into my hands!! (I want to make a children's quilt and have long since used any child prints in my stash) But: I got a jelly roll for the first time in my life in hopes I won't have quite so much left over to end up in my stash. Happy sewing everyone!

I like "jumped off the wagon" to "fell off the wagon" Jumped is intentional. And sometimes, jumping is needed.

I'm avoiding Joann's like the plague. TOO MUCH temptation. I'd definitely fall. And then spend days feeling bad about myself. My mental health is very important.
