WMUTeach -- great plan.
If the Joann store closes due to going bankrupt, I'll probably break every rule on this thread since that is the primary place I buy fabrics (when on sale). But I'll face that hurdle when/ if it gets here.

I posted somewhere else on the QB that JoAnn's closing all stores is not factual. Yes, some will close but at the time of the release of the information, January 5, it was about a dozen stores that would close at that time. Watch your own store closely. I will too. I don't shop fabric there but I do shop batting by the roll, thread, and spray baste.

Read the link from the original post, dated January 15. They have declared bankruptcy for the 2nd time in a year and will probably be sold to liquidators, which means all the stores will close.

Making hanging pockets to put quilts in show. Decided anything from stash would work. Found a "why do I have this" fabric. Great use for it.

Petthefabric - this is exactly what I did with some poly-cotton I had in my stash. I don't have enough of the good fabric to want to use it for sleeves. Thanks for putting the idea out there! :-)

I’m in this year. I built up my background stash over the last 6 months. And plan to use some of this fabrics over the next year. I will be reporting my fabric in and out.

Do you consider fabric in for a BOM?

Belfrybat 01-17-2025 01:28 PM

Happylab - I think that would be a personal call. So glad we don't have quilt police here! I would probably count it, but it also could be seen as a pass-through.

For me, any fabric that enters my door is "IN" and any finished quilt/project is "OUT", but that is how I record for myself. Do what fits you. I record BOM or sew-along- as "OUT' when they are finished. Example I am part of the Boom group here on the QB. I count my fabric as out when the whole quilt is done, done, done. Love that we can tailor this effort to use what is on hand to fit what motivates and is an incentive for us as an individual.

I'm happy to say I've been good about not ordering fabric since Oct 2018, maybe a fat quarter or two from the thrift store but that's been about it. But I'm getting ready to work on 5 oversized lap quilts and I didn't have any backings for them so I went to Quilted Twins in Florida and ordered backings for all of them and lucky me, they were all on sale. Do backings count in acquiring fabrics? Hope not.

With these 5 quilts on the table, I've pulled out close to 15 yards from mostly scraps and a bit of yardage. Last November I made 2 quilts, one a queen size and used all fabrics on hand including backing as I had ordered it years ago when I knew what colors they wanted. On the dinosaur quilt, I'm using a backing given to me.

WMUTeach 01-20-2025 04:25 PM

I stopped in to see a quilting pal and came home with backing for several quilts. Two are designated for specific tops on-hand waiting for sandwiching and the rest are colors that I use often. They will disappear in the next few months as I make donation quilts, baby quilts and now twin sized quilts for a pair of soon to be adopted brothers. My list never seems to get smaller.

At least I did not spend any money on these new backings. I will be shopping the bargain shelves at a local shop for a backing for a Christmas quilt I just found yesterday. All the parts, just need to do final assembly, layer, quilt and store for next Christmas.
