I really can`t remember :( sorry.....do you really think you`ll need more than 5 meters for the background??/

HuntA ... I like it ... though I know we need a lot more than 5 metres and want to know I have all in hand before I start. I can remember seeing a similar one though I think it was in blues ... no idea where. I seem to remember it as a very solid fabric (as in not wimpy and thin). Any clue on your end where yours came from?

I don't want to scare you but ........
(scroll down to How much background do I need?)
http://www.dearjane.com/newbie_info.htm

I've also seen the same scary number other places where I have been reading!
YIKES, eh? ... and of course, I will be PPing, so I am looking at the upper number.
YIKES, again!

On the upside, I am thinking that if I fizzle out with a Baby Jane ... at least it is a basic fabric for which I could find lots of other uses.

huntannette 10-17-2013 04:37 PM

Holly Smokes!!!! I don`t have enough!!!! hmm well maybe I`ll make a Smaller DJ lol

Or go scrappy and have an assortment of background fabrics?
I have contemplated that ... I just don't want plain white or cream or TOT versions of them. Though it would be a good way to use stash.

How does yours coordinate with the speckle you showed me?
Maybe use both?

huntannette 10-17-2013 05:36 PM

I really had my heart set on one background only but might have to reconsider dang lol

Any selvage info?
Newish? or how long since you bought it?

Thinking last night .. was the speckle maybe a FLand acquisition?
I seem to think I saw it there ... dear knows how long ago though!

huntannette 10-18-2013 07:14 AM

you might be right about the speckle from FLand....I `m sure bought it this past year...the quality is pretty darn good.....I was also thinking I saw a really nice backing fabric at FL that might work...I have some of it.....it is not speckles but I think would be perfect.... I bought a green of the same fabric and is on one of my quilts now. I`ll try and take a photo of it......since background fabric is so wide you might be able to buy less meters ....I know it is expensive but if you can get it at the 50% off for members day it wouldn`t be too much.....

I've been thinking of FLand ... not a member right now, but it would be worth joining to get the knockdown price.
Yes, please photo and tempt me!
The Guelph store is pretty good with quilting fabrics. Orangeville disastrous!

I have been following your DJ discusion and now I think I have to give my humble opinion to it:

Looking at my (already finished and assembled) Blocks and the Triangles (finished but not assembled yet) I cant picture a DJ with anything but a plain color background fabric.............UNLESS you make the blocks with plain color fabric!?
All this delicate corners and lines might mingle if you use for both a printed fabric. Did you ever had a perfect sewn corner and in that exact corner a dominate part of the print and steping back it looked distorted!? AAAARRGGGG..... the limitation of my english skills (we should comunicate more QuiltE)............do you know what I want to say??

So why not thinking of plain color fabric for the blocks or even better: prove me wrong!!

QuiltE: I fully understand your feelings. You want to make the DJ DIFFERENT. I had that idea too before I started. But I think the DJ is like Swiss chocolate: you cant make it any better. lol.

Hi granny_59.....if you go back a few pages on this tread you will see a few of my DJ blocks I posted . You will see I didn`t use plain color background....I think it looks awesome....don`t you think? I will be using all light colors and the background fabric is a light beige with a subtle design on it. I think it works? Would love to see your blocks...Always looking for inspiration!

I am following the thread from the beginning and of course your blocks look awesome. Like I said: prove me wrong. :-)

I posted my blocks here
http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t197945.html

and just realized that I never posted a picture from the assembled blocks. I only have pictures from playing around with different solid colors for the triagles. I could not decide yet but most probably I will stick to the same bachground fabric like the one for the blocks.

huntannette 10-18-2013 01:48 PM

Awww thank you so much for posting....I love it....hmmm wonder how long it`s going to take me to get that much done.......

granny_59 10-18-2013 01:57 PM

I took count for the first time. So far 4122 pieces and 406 hours for the center, number of pieces and time needed for the triangles are on the tags of each triangle and will be added at the time...........
DJ is a wonderful journey - enjoy it!!!!

JeanieG 10-18-2013 02:12 PM

OMG - that is just wonderful granny!

huntannette 10-18-2013 02:39 PM

holly smokes....that`s a lot of work! lol I know I will enjoy it....I don`t have a time frame for finishing...will just go with the flow and work on it on and off.....yours is already a treasure!!!

granny_59 your DJ is beautiful.

I have been reading the chat between huntannett and QuiltE and must say that the amount of background fabric required seems very excessive. I have been reading my Sylvia's Bridal Sampler book, (starting it in January) and the yardage listed is 7 yards. These blocks are 6 inches and there are 140. I would contact the participants on the DJ thread and ask their opinion. Just my 2 cents worth. QuiltE I had 5 yards of my background fabric for FWS and didn't use it all..

oksewglad 10-19-2013 06:41 AM

T--such a wonderful journey you have embarked upon. Your quilt is so lovely.
I've been enjoying all the talk on your DJ's. I'm so tempted but don't think the timing is right for me. Kudos to all of you who sew this work of art.

carriem 10-20-2013 04:30 PM

QE--that fabric you're looking at for your background reminds me of one at the LQS...I will look for it when I work next and let you know.

QuiltingNinaSue 12-21-2013 06:41 PM

QuiltE, do not fall off your chair, but the FFC is finally on its way to you. Cannot count how many breaks the reindeer take on the way to you...or when they might arrive. But it is on its way. Finally.

I'll be looking forward to receiving your block ... and hope you still do something for the FFC!

Anael 12-28-2013 12:14 AM

Oh dear, the FFC.............I totally forgot about it. Still haven't done anything with my FQ besides using a tiny piece of it in the still to be quilted ISA quilt!!

No time like the present!! :D
After all, I have yet to finish mine ... and now I can hold off again, as I wait for another siggie block to arrive!
Do you think I might get it done before the year is up?

ha! ... I was thinking a year since I started this thread! :D

Maybe I should issue a challenge for those who have not taken up the FFC, to take up the Challenge and do so with me before the first anniversary of the thread? :D

Anyone game?

Anael 12-29-2013 12:10 AM

I'm in! You posted the first post on May 11, my Mom's birthday :) How can I refuse this challenge?

DHMommy .... I've been waiting for a proper thread to show them! And you know I am ever so patient!!! As for several ................. hardly can say that, when there are 225 to make! :) A few, if you can even call them that!

Honchey ... As you know, I was wanting to get a thread for the Leisure Jane rolling for the holiday season. I am in touch with PatriceJ as per your advice, and waiting patiently! :)

Meanwhile .......... Jane'rs could all be making blocks, ready for a big start!! :)
(we need to catch up to HuntAnnette!!)

HuntAnnette ... I have visualizations of you being into mass production with your DJs now that winter is here in full force ... especially in your part of the province! :D BTW you should come for a trot to Len's for New Year's Eve ... batting is all 50% off! :)

oksewglad 01-04-2014 09:08 PM

QNS so glad QE didn't hurt herself when your block arrived--I'm just hoping her heart doesn't stop when mine arrives!!! I think mine's the last one to be finished. Is it there yet? Is it there yet?:D:D:D

Honchey 01-05-2014 09:19 AM

Gee whiz, I thought I was late and felt bad about it...and now to see I wasn't last, I feel soooo much better!!!:D

oksewglad 01-05-2014 09:44 AM

I felt really guilty too--but I'm over it cuz now she can be the one holding up the finish!!!:D

Honchey 01-05-2014 09:58 AM

She might be frozen up ...... further north and a LOT more snow and a LOT lower temps than me!
So maybe that means that she is sewing like crazy .... what else is there to do, HuntAnnette? :D IT could also be that she has been busy with her family for the holidays. Kids do not go back to school til tomorrow/Monday 6th.

HuntAnnette ...
Me too ... I'd really like to see your FFC DJ family!!!! And of course, any other DJs you have done. Guess what? I have 15 done now!

Anael 01-06-2014 12:53 AM

15 ! ! ! ! ! ! I have to start on those blocks again otherwise you'll catch up with me :D :D
