I read about your nightmare in the other thread Mirabelle! It really is a shame when measurements aren't right :( Did you find a solution for your problem?

Anael and QuiltE I think I have a solution to my problem, I won't worry about the embroidered panel, instead use the border fabric I was going to use for the final border and place this between the pieced panels..will lay it out tomorrow and post a pic for you to see and give me your opinion.. honest opinion warts and all.

So here is what I finished today with my fat quarter, it stand approximately 6 inches high and holds all my goodies for taking to patchwork. I already had one but it was a bit small so made this one a little bigger. Hope you like it.

Now when I go to patchwork I will be travelling with my friends:thumbup::thumbup: and thinking of all the wonderful friends I have made here. Thank you QuiltE. I just noticed I have not removed all my marks so will do that right now and it will be perfect

Anael 05-18-2013 04:04 AM

Oh WOW that's wonderful Karen! How did you make it? I don't see any marks so to me it's perfect already :)

QuiltE 05-18-2013 05:44 AM

That is absolutely marvelous, MiraB!!!!
So unique and will be the talk of the patchwork group, for sure! :D
Great idea with the raised portion in the lid, so you can stuff it full, and it will zip up easily enough.

Yippeeeee we get to go to patchwork each week with MiraB!! :)

Anael ... me-thinks the woman is blind ... warts? marks?

MiraB ... good idea for the quilt reno. Another reason why not to follow a pattern!

Angel Bear 05-18-2013 05:59 AM

There are sooooooooo many talented quilters here! I am very happy I found this board. You bring knowledge and smiles to my days. :o

DogHouseMom 05-18-2013 07:01 AM

Karen ... that is gorgeous!!! I love the way the zipper is set and the vertical inside panel up the center back. Looks ... difficult :)

DogHouseMom 05-18-2013 07:10 AM

QuiltE ... thanks for finally rescuing my block from the stuffy PO. I'll bet he was hungry. Anael ... thanks for giving QuiltE a proper "nudge of shame" :)

I've chosen the block I want to make with the rest of my fabric that will go with my sampler ... now I need to figure out if I have enough fabric left. It's paper pieced ... so tricky math (I hate tricky math .. which is basically anything beyond the 5X multiplication table!).

But now ... the garden calls. I just did a morning stroll through the front beds (enjoyed the scent of Lily of Valley!) and the south bed (enjoyed the scent of Iris!). Now it's time to check on the beds in the back of the house and move my hoya's from the greenhouse to the back deck. I might plant up my deck pots after a trip to the garden center. We also have to set the frames for the tomato and cuke trellises over the vegetable garden. So many gardens ... so little time.

Spring time ... my gardens and my sewing room both beckon ... sewing can wait until evening. Must make hay while the sun shines!!

JeanieG 05-18-2013 07:42 AM

Mirabelle - that tote is wonderful. I've got my materials and pattern out, just wish I had the time to get at it. Of course, I'm on a trip and won't be home until tomorrow! :o We decided to take an extra three days!

Anael 05-18-2013 08:23 AM

DHM, you're welcome :)
PP is no tricky math, just print 1 extra sheet and use that as templates. I always do that with complicated PP designs. Saves time, fabric and hair :D

Jeanie, good for you, those extra days. Is your hubby well again?

QuiltE 05-18-2013 11:36 AM

DHMom ... FYI the hay is not ready to cut yet! :)
Yes, your block was hungry. It's cute when it's hungry!
I took it's pic for you ... though have yet to download it and send it to you.

I too have been in the "beds" ... started yesterday with a truck of purchases and got some done last night. Just in to get cleaned up and take off, as I've run out if things to plant and have one small bed and a large planter box to do. They're all by themselves, so at least I don't have to worry about finding the very same as the rest of my flowers. Records time in getting this done ... not sure how that happened! :D (and oh my aching back!!!)

My Lily of the Valley are budded, so soon, I will have wafts of aroma. Likewise the Lilacs all along my lane. No iris here. Only blooms right now are my service berry tree and white ground phlox intersperesed with grape hyacinth. The best scent I got was working among the lavender bushes .... just starting to show their new growth, but oh they sure smell nice all the same!! :D

JeanieG ... no rush ... and besides, you need the extra days away to rest up for the next onslaught of worker bees buzzing about!

Anael ... good suggestion, when debating whether one has enough fabric for a PP project!

................ and now I am off, to get more posies ... and not of the 4PP variety!!!! :D

DHM this is not a difficult little bag to make just have to pin very carefully when attaching the lid and base, the rest is pretty straight forward. The pattern is from a book called Fabulous Fat Quarter Bags and it is called a Mini Pochette, I made mine a little larger to fit all my stuff in and I used extra stiff wadding so it won't collapse

Anne I answered on the other thread but I will also answer here, I have attached a photo of the book cover so you can see what you are looking for..

heather1949 05-19-2013 03:33 AM

What a great idea well done.

gardnergal970 05-19-2013 04:46 AM

QuiltE....the local farmers have already made some of the sweetest hay of the season and it didn't get rained on either.
My FFC is still waiting for action although I know what I want to do. Other things keep popping up and I get distracted. I'll probably be in the caboose for this ride.

Being in the south, your hay is so much earlier than ours! Early cuts are never til the end of May or early June, and that's more likely for haylage. Dry hay, mid June.

There's no rush on the FFC ... I'll be with you in the caboose, as I can't move on with mine til I have all the little ones back home again! :) I did draw it out on paper and then can get into action. Actually, guess I could do some pre-cutting, thoough probably won't, just in case a different idea comes. Never like to be locked in!! :D

Honchey 05-19-2013 05:20 AM

Mirabelle, I just bought the book on Ebay....very reasonable price $.

I'm going to make something I taught a class on...It's very easy, cute and very functional and I need another one...I'll be customizing it with some embroidery...it's time I put my Diamond thru it's paces...I think I used it once in 3 yrs!!!..

oksewglad 05-19-2013 08:47 AM

mumbling to herself---okay I had that siggy block here somewhere--maybe piled under that stack of bills that're going to get paid today. Keep digging......

fred singer 05-19-2013 08:55 AM

:D And smiling back at you, thinking what if the siggie gets stuffed in with a cheque and sent off to the feed company? :D

Here we go: just put the last stitch on it. Thanks to DogHouseMom`s great sewing box I realized that I had forgotten about the pins, so I added a pin cusion.
Thank you QuiltE! I wont have to travel with my sewing stuff in a plastic bag anymore............ :-)
Granny

QuiltE 05-19-2013 01:43 PM

Granny59 ...I am SO impressed with your traveling kit!!
Since you have included your rotary cutter and ruler, can you set one of the little cutting mats inside before you zip it up?

It sure puts my GFG travel kit to shame!

And to All ... There's been so many great projects done (and in the works, too!) that it makes me SO proud of each and everyone of you! :D

oksewglad 05-19-2013 04:27 PM

granny--oh yes much nicer than a plastic bag!!

Re: misplaced check. Don't laugh too long QE. Earlier this year, I put the phone check and the correct check to one business and sent a paycheck to the phone company. I could not figure out where I put that pay check. Local business called--they shredded the phone check. Letter from the phone company regarding incorrect amount and payee--returned the check. So I had to straighten that all out. Yikes some days I think I'm losing it!!

QuiltE 05-19-2013 04:59 PM

OKSGlad ... it happens ... I had a big mix up like yours once between 3 of our farm suppliers. YIKES! They must have thought I'd gone bonkers! The good news was that they were easier to sort it out with than the more impersonal big telephone, hydro etc.

mirabelle 05-19-2013 05:24 PM

granny_59 I love your travel bag for your sewing stuff, how neat and won't everyone be envious:thumbup:

carriem 05-19-2013 06:05 PM

Everyone has come up with some great ideas!! Can't wait to see what others are doing. :)

dublb 05-20-2013 06:25 AM

Oh thanks Anael. I posted this on the wrong thread. LOL I guess I was a bit tired last night. :o

QuiltE sent me a pic of the friendship square that sent back to her. I forgot to take a pic before it left home. Silly me.

The dog head is from a necklace that I purchased eons ago (close to 20 years I think). It was originally a necklace and it was the first "dog" item I purchased for myself when I started showing dogs (OK ... then it's well over 20 years ago!!). I used to breed and show dogs (hence the name DogHouseMom), and would occasionally wear jewelry that signified my breed. I bred Kuvasz .. and this is a very nice representation of a good Kuvasz head. I still have one Kuvasz here at home ... a male from my last litter. His name is Pig. Yes, I have a dog named Pig. Husband said he looked like the pig Babe from the movie when he was right out of the box and still wet (I must admit he did). The name stuck (despite my attempt to re-name him Banner).

QuiltE wanted something that said "that's DogHouseMom" and I have a machine embroidery Kuvasz, but could not scale him small enough to fit on the block. So I had a sideways think and thought ... I donate my Kuvasz head! I didn't attach him, left that to QuiltE to do after she sews the blocks together.

So meet DogHouseMom's "Pig" confined to a permanent "sit-stay".

JeanieG 05-26-2013 09:38 AM

Got mine all cut out and parts sewn together! Yeah! Going together beautifully....what is it???? :D

Continuing to use the FQ ... here's a birdie block I made today. I found the block online somewhere and dropped it into my Pinterest account. I thought it would be a nice addition to a mixed block size scrappy sampler quilt that I have in progress. My thought it to make a vertical row of three of the birdies. Here's the first. Below that is a pic of the blocks that I have completed so far for the sampler.

Birdie is 6" square finished.

How about a hint? I've put my crystal ball away for the weekend :)

carriem 05-26-2013 11:05 AM

DHM--The bird will make a nice addition to your sampler. I had to look up "Kuvasz" to see what the dogs look like...very pretty.
